I go for the whole foods whenever possible. Oats, banana, and milk are usually the elements of my PWO carbs. Not like using dextrose or maltodextrin is going to hold you back, I just consider it gratuitous unless you're really at competition level.

Alright, for this workout session im gonna go with oats and a banana for carbs. I just had a meal so I dont think Dextrose and Maltodextrin are gonna benefit me much.

I'm getting sick of the sub 150lbs people giving unsound advice.

You think oats PWO is a bad idea? Why is that?

I think a carb is a carb and that's a fact... The only advantage oats have over WMS is the steady flow of insulin and possible health benefits.
Carbs are carbs no matter how you slice it.

Steady flow of insulin and possible health benefits. That right there seems like a good reason to eat them pwo. Plus, it seems like eating oatmeal would be a positive thing because it's a pretty filling food overall, and as you adjust to eating a lot of oats it gets easier for you to eat other things, and people this skinny need to be eating real food all the time.
Yeah a carb is a carb. But I'd rather have these people developing a healthy appetite and looking to eat constantly than dumping sugar in a drink and considering it a food "alternative".

There are other benefits of insulin spiking in terms of body recomposition and muscle gain...

Word. I've been doing sliced peaches, oats/WW flour/ and whey, figured I might as well try to hit all the bases. Except for fat, of course, because it's evil.

All I will say is; My strength, mass, and recovery has improved since switching from oats to waxy.
I plan on competing down the line, so my goals may differ from others.

Yeah it sounds like you're also in considerably higher performance shape than these guys are. I appreciate the info though, I am getting close to another bulking cycle and I'm definitely at the point I want to get the maximum benefit out of my nutrition, so I'll look into the waxy. Thanks man, repped for the solid experience.

Other than malto, which I will never advocate using, not really.

It's a high-g.i. complex carb... I'm also using LX until the bottle runs out.

Whey alone gives enough of an insulin response to blunt cortisol.

Hey guys,
Sorry for what may be a dumb question but does your choice of PWO meal differ when you are cutting vs bulking?
I'm a female trying to lose fat (I'm not competing, now or ever, lol, just looking to lose some weight I gained when I was having some health problems). Is whey and a banana an acceptable PWO meal?
TIA

and you attribute all this to waxy? nothing else in your training, rest and diet could have led to this?
I will note though that I have done alot of research on the subject of spiking insulin pwo from many different sources and it seems that the people saying gi does not matter are not really that educated in nutrition and do not compete or have very impressive physiques and alot of the people advocating pwo spikes are competitors or trainers. Other than Alan most people I still belive use high gi carbs pwo. One thing I will note is that Alan is very convincing and he backs up his points by science and I realize that the reason those competitors are in great shape is not just because they use high GI carbs pwo.
Just to be safe I use half high gi and half low gi, waxy and sweet potatoes ftw!
