GTi mkV is a fun car to drive. I was torn between it and RSX-S when I was looking.
Edit:The Cobalt SS I test drove and was unimpressed.

I'd go for the Civic SI not a turbo but the thing is quick and light as hell. VWs are heavy so they may have more hp but not necesarialy quicker. You could just go balls out and go for an STI if ur lookin for 4 cyl and turbo

how do u figure an STI is awful lol It puts down just sub 300, is AWD, suspension is legit, 6 speed, and yes it is a ticket magnet but only really if u get an aftermarket exhaust or spoiler which would do nothing but make it loud or heavier...

My mini cooper S is pretty quick, and gets 33 MPG, with a supercharger.
03 165HP
New ones are over 200hp, and JCW model is like 250hp i think.

Absolutely! I'll never forget how annoyed I was looking at the quarter turned boost gauge. The same day I drove a Saturn Ion redline, even though it's the same engine, I liked the Saturn better.

Cross the Cobolt (in any iteration) off your list. Instead, replace it with Honda Civic STi, or Mazda 3Speed. However, I'd go with the comform and convenience of the VW GTi

Well I test drove an 06 Cobalt SS/SC and an SRT-4 in the same day and like the Cobalt better. Instant boost and the interior was very nice. The Cobalt SS/SC is faster than both the Civic Si and GTI's.

You do realize that the new 08 Cobalts dont have a S/C anymore and now carry a turbo? They come with 260hp stock and run 13's in the 1/4 mile. Much better than any Civic Si and just as fast as the MS3, but looks 10 times better.

Have you driven the new GTi's? Torque is strong even at low rpm. I'm having a hard time believing the Cobalt is faster. The only reason I didn't get the GTI is I didn't want a turbo. I opted for the RSX-s glad I did great car.

I'm sorry but I can't disagree more. GM products in this line are notoriously unreliable, with poor fit and finish and over all quality issues. It may be fast in the beginning, but a bit down the line when it begins coming unglued, you wish you had chosen something different.

That's too bad, cause the GTi is most like the best 4 cylinder turbos on earth. I doubt if it's faster than the Cobalt, but it's without a doubt a lot more civilized.

The fastest stock time I believe for the new GTI's was a 14.7-14.8. The fastest stock Cobalt SS/SC is like 14.2-14.3 and the average is around 14.5-14.6. I think the new GTI's are the best they've ever been, but get a stage 2 or 3 upgrade along with some bolt ons in a Cobalt and you're running 12's easily.
Now you're AWARE!!

Trust me man I waffled for like 4 months, I really liked the GTI. My other problem is they had just come out and NOBODY was willing to deal they only offered whatever crappy incentives VW passed down.

I've been on the Ecotec forums and the J-body forums and there have only been a few accounts of someones Cobalt failing on them. The new Cobalts are very very reliable, and the new turbo'd ones are gonna be even better.

So you're saying the new GTI is faster than the Cobalt SS/SC?

the only problem with your logic is that youre overlooking the fact that its a chevy. american cars are absolute ****, and not even worth considering unless you're looking for a big diesel truck.
of what you have selected, i'd go for the GTI. looks better, and comes from a solid manufacturer. the only problem with it is that maintanence requires penile deposits in your rectal cavity. its expensive for the german cars. look into how much it is and see if you can stomach that on top of a car payment (unless you're modding it and/or doing the work on your own. FYI modding can void your entire warranty).
if you're looking for turbo 4 banger i'd look at the WRX STi. maintenence isn't nearly as bad as what you'd pay for the VW.
any of the cars mentioned in this thread will be a ticket magnet, especially if you drive like an *******.
beyond the obvious, is there any reason why you selected these vehicles/ what are you looking for?
