    MMA and biceps

    Are biceps important in fighting? I remember there was a thread similar to this one but about pecs. I'm wondering if the same thing applies to biceps

    All muscles are important. What are you going to not train them because they're not as needed? Besides the most valuable muscle is your hips, which no one trains anyways.

    Ya, I know that the tricep plays a big role in a punch. Doubt it hurts to have strong biceps though.

    biceps are a secondary muscle. It doesnt need to be trained seperately, you can do plenty with compound movements which train them without doing any curls. tris>bis in fighting.

    I would presume that bigger biceps can give you the edge in submission moves like sleeper holds or knee locks,

    but generally having bigger arms = more mass = more momentum = more kinetic energy.

    Man are you on crack?? biceps are probably the LEAST important muscle to develop for a fighter, power comes from core/hip strength applied with GOOD TECHNIQUE, for fighting you want strong legs, strong shoulders, a ripped core and strong forearms, i mean as a fighter every muscle should be as developed as you can get it but if you were to focus on those muscles you would get better.

    If your biceps helped you power out of armbars you'd basically be one-arm curling someone's bodyweight whilst they were struggling, which is probably a physical impossibility unless the guy you're fighting is 50 lbs or less. Any time you see someone pull someone up with an armbar, it's usually with them standing with both their hands clasped together using their legs/hips to power up, and even that is really, really rare.
