Arrow Lolakitten - back at it

Ok, a journal, just what I need! So, a bit about me - I'm 29, 5'9", and currently 152 (as of this morning) lbs. I'm an Ex triathlete (did 2 Ironmans before getting married) turned bodydbuilder about 5 years ago. I was in the best shape of my life about a year and a half ago - I was muscular, lean, fit & confident. Fastforward through IVF (lots of hormones = not good for the physique) & a rough (read no excersise allowed) pregnancy & you have my current shape - lost muscle & about 15-20 lbs of extra flab. So, It's been 14 weeks since by beautiful daughter was born via c-section, and I am back in the swing of things. Luckily the c/s was a breeze & I was back in the gym by my 6 wk appointment. The bigest constraint for me now is that the childminding at my gym has a 90 min cap & only runs 9-12 am, so I get an hour a day to work out - once a day. I am also nursing, so my diet will not be as strict as it could be, and I won't be taking any supplements that haven't been ok'ed by our Dr.

So, my current routine has been :

Wk 1:
mon - shoulders (I give this it's own day because shoulders are my weakest part)
tues- chest & tricepts
wed - bodycombat class
thursday - legs
friday - back & bicepts
Sat - run
Sun - run

Wk 2 :
mon - off (Well baby drop in in the am, so I can't make it to the gym)
tues- shoulders tricepts, & bicepts
wed - bodycombat class
thursday - legs
friday - back & chest
Sat - run
Sun - run

I'm still working on my eating (nursing is making me ravenous), but I make sure to get my protein in & eat quality whole foods.

I did my run this morning on the treadmill - 40 min today. Other than that I've been basically just vegging - it's a million degrees outside. We went for a brief walk outside, but not nearly as long as usual - too hot.

Today was the well baby drop in - so rest day for me. (DD weighs 14lbs9oz now )

Rest days are so boring.

Yesterday I did my second Body Combat class - I really enjoy this class as part of my cardio. It's quite chalenging & fun, however it's amazing how uncoordinated I am, lol. I guess years of liftig, running, cycling & swimming do nothing for your coordination. I look like a weenie in that class so far.
Note to self: buy appropriate shoes - running shoes are no good for this class.

Today I decided to to back & chest instead of legs, because my knees were a bit sore from yesterday.

Incline bb press 4x10
assisted pull ups 3x8
Flat bb bench 3x10
lat pull 3x10
seated row 3x10
cable crossovers 3x10
straight arm pull down 3x10

I've been eating non stop today. I'm just so hungry. I'm nursing DD right now, so I make sure to eat good clean foods, but I've decided to not count calories for now, so we'll see what happens with that. #1 right now is to get my old muscle back anyway - I guess I'll deal with fat loss later.

Great job on your workout! Im assuming you belong to Goodlife? I used to go to the step classes their all the time... their classes are created well!
Have you tried any of their other classes?

I just started my training two weeks ago and I am starting to get super hungry all the time... your body will be burning calories faster then the average person since you are breastfeeding so you may get the fat loss you are looking for also

I've tried Body Combat once and it kicked my butt! Its very challenging!

Good job on listening to your body - it sounds like your body is sucking up all that nutrition to those wonderful muscles

Yup, Goodlife They are the only gym (around here at least) that have child minding. They just opened up the one I go to in April, and it's fantastic. I've never tried any of their other classes. I'll probably do RPM once in a while, but I used to teach Spinning when I lived in Toronto, so I'm a bit bored of that for now.

Are you post partum as well?

You should definitely check out the step classes! I loved them... although im a bit uncoordinated which made some of the moves interesting :P

ANd no I am not post partum.... My belly was once filled with doughnuts and cookies though... i have since cleaned up my act

Ok, so this week was kind of a jumble up. The plan was (since I had a leg workout to do) to do my cardio at the gym Saturday morning then do legs after. I don't usually go to the gym on Saturday, but my husband was out shooting for the day (photography, not hunting).

Anyway, I saw this as a opportunity to try out a BodyPum class, since I've alwsy wanted to try one. Well, I'm hooked - I love it! Unfortunatly after the class I my leg were so fried that I had trouble walking, so there goes my leg w/o for the week. On an upside, they are soooo sore, that I'm sure they got a better workout from that class than I would have done on my own, so it worked out.

I'm now sitting here coffee in hand about to do my morning run. We'll see how that goes, lol. *hobbles over to treadmill*

Oh, and I bought proper shoes for fitness classses yesterday - no more sore knees & toes for me

I love Body Pump!!

I find it hard to do any type of cardio after leg day!

If your Body Pump is anything like the ones here they are all about squats and lunges...wow!

Im glad you got to try out another class! BodyPump was always super popular when i went to GL and you had to get there super early to get a decent spot in the room! Hope your legs are feeling better and great job doing a run afterwards!! Keep up the great work

Yup , It's pretty popular here too, but the whole club in genera is not crowded (maybe because it's new?) so it was easy to get a spot. Plus, being a newbie, the instructor wanted me front & centre, lol.

Today I did Shoulders tris & bis. I bulked them together this week so I can do a weekday Bodypump class, since getting to the gym Saturday is not normal for me.

db shoulder press 3x12,10,8 (25lb db's)
cable front raises ss w/ cable lateral raises 4x12/10 (5lb)
tricepts extensions 3x12 (40lb)
rope overhead tri extensions 3x10 (30)
barbell curls 3x10 (40lb)



So Here's what I'm thinking for this wk (non baby drop in wk)
Mon - Shoulders Tris Bis
Tues - Body Pump
Wed - Body Combat
Thurs - Chest & Back
Fri - Legs
Sat - Run
Sun - Run

I wonder if that's too much?

Sounds like a good plan to me!! Just be careful not to overtrain your sholder/tris/bis by doing body pump the next day!

Yes! I know how you feel. When I started bf my DD I couldn't stop eating or drinking water, bf is thirsty work! I think with all your work and bf combined, no matter what you eat now, the weight is going to drop quickly. I really think it helped me to lose my baby weight. Congrats on becoming a new mommy!! And good luck with your training/eating/ and bfing!
