If you go back and watch the Holland vs Italy game again you'll start to realize that this amazing fluid attacking play that Holland had was not really present. Holland did not control the game and did not create nearly as many chances as people think they did. With the suspect Italy defense and the finishing of Ruud, a dominant Holland team would have made more chances then that.Originally Posted by MetFan

I respectfully disagree. Holland controlled a lot more possession than Italy. They also had more shots on goal and chances in general. Their passing was very fluid and when they got into tight spaces, they were able to get out of them, tooling the italians. Although Italy had some good chances to score, they didn't convert and most of the time the high pressure of the dutch was too much for them to create. I look for italy to come out stronger for the next two group games and advance with Holland.Originally Posted by MUFC

I'm gonna agree with MUFC here, they really didn't control the game that much, and their goals came from counter attacks (brilliant, I must add), where they ended up 3 attackers on 2 defenders. I reckon Spain have shown the best attacking football by far, slicing the defence open when they still had all 4 defenders back there, and flat. The movements of Villa, and the vision and creativity of the Spanish midfielder were too much. I guess we'll only be able to tell when they play the harder teams thoughOriginally Posted by sjr_1490
