speaking of bagels... sorry this is off topic
But I was also in Stop & Shop on Friday, & I saw something in which I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...
A bagel with the cream cheese already in it... are we really getting THIS LAZY?!
* 200 calories (or less)
* 6 g of fat (or less)
* 220 mg of sodium (or less)
* 0 g of trans fat
What's worse is... this is the statement from their website:
Bagel-fuls also are a good source of calcium and seven other vitamins and minerals. Additionally, this product meets Kraft's Sensible Solution criteria and is a good-for-you option that fits with the growing health and wellness trend.
We can't even by a bagel, and cream cheese; toast the bagel and apply cream cheese? Seriously!
Some people need serious help
And yes, btw, the first ingredient is "white unbleached" flour

i get mine from Costco...the everything bagel. i think they are Einstein Bagels...or some type of brothers co. bagel. either way they are GOOD.
thomas brothers has a whole wheat bagel with better stats than the one you showed...more fiber. i think protein is 8 which is great.

Most bagels are 70+ grams of carbs, when you compare it to the 51g in these, I think thats great especially with it coming from a good source. I also personally don't think 50g is a lot for either a breakfast, or pwo meal though

God I love bagels so much. One of the hardest things for me to give up during a cut.
My boss brings in Tim Horton's bagels every wednesday morning at 6AM for our meetings. They actually have a decent profile if eaten plain, quite similar to the bagels that you found. 10 grams of protein, 51 grams of carbs.

Most bagels have about 10g of protein in them..Whether they're wheat or regular, whatever.
Bagels are great, just go with whole wheat ones... The white processed ones are terrible for you, loaded with tons of sugar, and don't even taste as good as the wheat ones.

I eat bagels frequently, but I try to offset the carbs by choosing a lower GI bagel. I eat pumpernickel bagels, which are awesome with everything, especially toasted with natural peanut butter.

Sorry to be all strict and annoying, but Bagels are pretty much universally a no-no while cutting. I know you can sort of reason that they're somewhat healthy; but honestly, stay away from them.
Dirty carbs by the truckload with each bagel you consume. Stick to a slice of whole wheat bread in the morning if you REALLY have a craving for that kind of thing. Oats is ideal either way. I know it's hard to give up bagels (I use to have one a morning myself) but it really is for the best.

Untrue. Cutting. I but one/ split it in half. One half after a workout, the other half after the next day's workout. On a high CHO week btw.
BTW, I understand you said "pretty much universally"

...A whole wheat bagel is just as 'healthy' as a slice of whole wheat bread.
I see no difference. One's in bread form, the other in bagel form.
Inform me?

It's just serving size. Alot of the folks on this forum are already having a bit of a rough time keeping everything under control, so throw a daily bagel in the mix and you've got alot of excess carbs flooding a diet under the illusion that it's healthy to do so!
A slice of whole wheat bread takes away the craving for a bready flavor without making you feel guilty about consuming a whole bagel. I understand that the bagel and the slice of bread are essentially the same product in different serving sizes, but psychologically portion-size is a big deal.
Of course, if a bagel fits into your macros and you can time your consumption (like the poster above who times it around his workout time) by all means; go for it. I think it's entirely fair to say bagels should be off-limits for most people trying to cut, though.
