Unhappy Compression fracture in my L2 vertebrae

I fractured my L2 vertebrae and pulled the ligament in my ankle Saturday (June 1). I love working out and can't for a while!

Has anyone had a similar injury? If so, how long did it take to recover? Any tips or advice?

Some Advice....

I have been in sports and weight training for the better part of 15 years now. I am fortunate to have not had to many injuries but recently had very similar injuries to you and the best advice I can give you is this....

1. Start Physical Therapy as soon as possible for both your back and Ankle
2. See a specialist
3. For the Ankle; RICE: Rest, Ice, Compession and Elevation
4. NO WORKING OUT! Listen to your Physical Therapists!
5. Listen to your body.

Injuries like the ones you have take time and training to heal. You need to teach and train your muscles so you don't continue to problems in the future. Best of luck to you and you will be back in no time!!!

In Spet of 2006, I broke my L3 (compression fracture). I alsobroke the little wing thing off of the side of it. I broke my right hand and tore the Lig. in my right wrist too.

Mine was due to a motorcycle crash, but it took me about 3-4 weeks before I was not wearing my back race and on week 5 I was on my dirt bike. Prob not the smartest thing, but I was real bored at the time.

I still have back trouble from it today. My back aches after 45 minutes of sitting in the car on trips. When doing squats or bent over rows, or any other exercise that involves your lower back, it cramps up real bad.

I have broke 17 bones total now. Including my pelvic bone twice, but my back is by far the worst break. I would re-do that day if I could.

Good luck with your recovery. Just wear your brace, do the physical therapy, and try to keep your core strong when you are done to keep the pain to a minimum.

DONT rush the recovery.

Jay
