Sharp pain in abdomen when squatting.
Hey everyone.
I was squatting today when i developed a sharpish pain in my lower right abdomen.
Its progresive in that it starts off not that bad but gets worse with each rep.
I started off doing 10 x 60kg with ease then did 5 x 70kg before a pain almost like someone was pushing velcro into it developed.
Any idea or advice?
Thank you

I wouldn't go to heavy until you get it checked out, is there any kind of visible lump?

No, I wasnt wearing a belt or anything tight. I even checked that something hadnt got in my shorts. There isnt a visible lump. And it doesnt hurt to push it in that area and im pushing quite hard. I can still run fine, and it didnt hurt when i deadlifted on tuesday. It only seems to occur when i squat as the same thing happened two weeks ago.

Your putting too much pressure on your abdomen. You have to be really careful with this, because you could easily get a hernia. Your intestines are actually getting pushed into your abdominals muscles from all of the weight thats on your back, of course it will will get worse rep and rep because your body is under more and more stress as you complete a set.
If the intestines get pushed through the abdominal wall, that's a hernia. This actually isn't as bad as it sounds, but its still excrutiatingly painful.
You have to be the judge here, lightening up on the squats might not be a bad idea, maybe switching to leg presses too for awhile. Also, its very important to have strong abs if you want to be a good squatter. Start doing a lot of crunches.

so did the pain feel like it was coming from inside out or outside in?

I couldnt really say if it came from inside or out, but the it felt sort of burning/ or how it would feel if someone was pushing velcro into it.
I was reading about hernias, but they seem to casue pain more often than i get. I was deadlifting 100kg for ten reps on tuesday and no pain.

I would still be careful just because you don't feel it on deads or other exercises doesn't mean your lining isn't weak. Tears happen easier than you think.
I would get it checked out though.

Well im gonna do nothing for a week as I have a rugby sevens tournament in 8 days. Is it perhaps a case that my core strenth is not strong enough for the amount im lifting?

I just did some squats, this time I did leg swings before hand to get the ROM and warm up. I didnt get any pain. I did 8 x 70kg then worked my way up till i got to 2x100kg. Maybe the pain was a trapped nerve as I've had that in my back before?
