How important is it to eat before weightlifting?
Ok normally I have a protien shake before weightlifting (it's the first thing I do in the morning) but since I started taking niox and you have to take it on an empty stomach and 30 mins before my workout, then I'm not sure when I should have my protien?? Is it nessacry to have protien before my workout if it's the first thing I do in the morning??

No as long as your strength is still good without eating I see no problem without eating prior to working out. I did it for years.
As long as you get a protein rich and some carbs in within an hour or so from your workout, you should be fine.

how empty of a stomach?
I would think the protein shake first thing in the morning would be really important. maybe if you delay the workout a bit until the shake clears the stomach (which shouldn't be long for a liquid shake), then niox, then workout, then eat again.
i think that as soon as you wake in the morning, you should get the protein in you to provide the nutrition to the muscles. I like the idea of using muscle mass to burn fat instead of cardio or supps.

If you workout in the AM, I would suggest you hydrate yourself well and down some carbs for some energy..some fruit or good cereal..After your workout hit yourself with some protein and polish off your breakfast.
I used to drink a protein shake before my workouts, but felt it just made me feel full, fat and bloated. I prefer after. I think your body needs more carbs before for energy.

I have to eat something before a workout.... I have no strength in the mornings without some kind of intake...
To me, a protein shake only does not suit..
I need some cals and carbs...

Usually I don't have alot of time to break thing up like that in the morning, cause I like to get weigthlifting in before the kids get up. But I was could set my alarm an hour early down the shake and go back to bed for an hour, then get up take the niox and go back to bed.
And thanks!!

I'm always very engertic in the mornings that's why I do most of my training first thing. I usally don't need carbs till after my cardio. Normally I would do cardio, then eat, the weightlift, eat agin. But the niox is sorta forcing me to change my schedule and I'm gonna be travelling alot real soon. So I need to get a new routine down before I head out. It gets to confusing to be playing with my diet and workout routine when I'm traveling....
I could get an hour early have the shake(any way 70 cals 17 protien mixed with water) go back to bed, then get take up the niox, weighttraining, have another protien shake(whey,1/2 milk,1/4c.cottage cheese C:160 P:35) cardio then eat breakfast. Good??

I workout at 5:00 am and I just take a protien shake with me to the gym (2 scoops). If you have the energy to workout before eating like I do, take your niox on an empty stomach and go workout. You'll be fine. Try taking a shake to the gym or maybe some carbs to snack on while you workout and see if either of those work better for you. You'll really have to experiment a little to see what works best for YOU.
Good luck.

My opinion... is much like others, that is, that you need energy to work out... if you have it then don't worry, other than having some protein early. Personally though, I burn out pretty quickly in the morning without eating something to get some energy from.
I was expecting you to say that the shake you are having has carbs in it, and that was what I was going to suggest as to why you have the energy. If the thing is only 70 calories, there ain't many carbs there...

The morning protien shake I have isn't really to provide energy, I've meet alot of cycliest that think they burn more fat if they ingest something before working out as opposed to nothing. I haven't read up on this alot but the thought behind it is simply to take in enough protien to stop the your bodies natuaral fasting process from the night?? Like I said I haven't read up on thi but I figured a little protien before working out cann't hurt. I don't know if it help but the guys I ride with are swear by it.

Maybe BCAA's would work better for you? Just a suggestion if you're trying to prevent your muscles from eating themselves.

You can take all the BCAA's you want. When your body goes catabolic there is no stopping it.
Until you feed the body back up with carbs.

I have a bit of trouble having a good workout with solid food on my stomach. It makes me a bit nauseous
I workout in the morning also, I take my preworkout supps and always do a double scoop of muscle milk shortly after my workouts then I have a bit of breakfast an hour or so after that.

Really? 'cause I haven't had any significant carbs in about a week and I'm not catabolic. Not trying to be jerky, I'm actually curious about this. Do you have links or anything where I can read more?

I do alot of cardio!! I do several 100 mile races through out the summer, cycling and running. I'm trying to build up some muscle now and then hopefully preventing any major muscle loss later in the summer. So should I be having carbs with my shake before I workout in the morning??

I usually never eat before my workout 5 am is to early to digest food for me,
sometimes on the weekend I'll have a PS and I feel sluggish when training,
I think a lot depends on the person. No it's not a necessity. Post is.

That depends on how many carbs are already in your shake?
If its less than 20grams I would say to eat something like a quarter cup of oats with it for example.

But do you workout first thing in the morning? that's my real concern because it's the first thing I do is it really nessacry to eat first..... now if it were running or cycling I would def have no more then a scope of whey with water. All the guys I train with swear by this idea and that it will lead to a getter fat burn before cardio.

Ok define significant carbs and how much cardio do you do?
Maybe I can explain more with this information due to your specific doings or can direct you to some links.
