GF makes more money than me

So last night I was chatting with my girlfriend over dinner and I found out she makes about $2.00/hr more than I make. She is a Parole Officer and Im a Project Engineer. Also I pay about $250 dollars a month for insurance before I even get my check, where she only pays $25 a month.

I normally always pay for all our dates (she does buy me a couple drinks now and then and offered to pay for mini-golf once) and I also live on my own where she still lives with her parents = her saving most of her money, I have zero savings. I have alot more bills/expenses than she does, but I am also a very generous guy when it comes to spending my money....so should I be getting her to pay for more things? Or are we still in a world where a guy pays for most things even though we are supposed to be equals?

Im not so much complaining about the issue....just wondering what the men and women think about this on here.

its tricky.. im in a very similar situation i have way more bills/debit then my girlfriend and i continue to pay for almost everything.. but i do let it be known when i can't afford to go out becuase its bill time.. and she is usually understanding and treats that night. if your open i dont see why you guys can't split everything 50/50

Yes but when she has a lot more money than me come the end of the day....and I have barley enough to get by on....is that really fair in this "equal" world?

Its totally fair to go 50/50 on everything in any relationship, especially when your financial circumstances are so different.

And yeah, I think you missed your opportunity when she said that.

People living with their parents have no idea how much it costs to live alone, maybe you should write a list of your regular outgoings and show her, so she understands a little better.

Yes I make **** pay $16.40/hr.....Im applying for other jobs. I had to laugh though because when she starting going on saying she isnt payed much I was like damn I must be getting fuked over then haha

you need to start leading (NOT asking) her into paying half of the dates. Also does she even cook at all? my gf makes more than me, I pay for dates but she buys groceries and cook for me everyday.

Im thinking I should do this and just say I dont have the money some nights to go out so she would understand and maybe pay a little more....It just that I always believed in paying the most for the dates, but this situation kinda changes things a little.

I agree, I have dated girls that live with their parents and it seems like they sometimes have no concept at all about Rent+Utilities+Insurance+CAR and renters insurance....etc I think that I may acutally try this too.

But we both also make six figures (she's a Director of a nursing home, I just got promoted to Senior Safety Engineer). I think that the higher the wage you make.........and possibly the older you get, the less it matters about who makes more or less. In essence, we both go 50/50 in our relatonship but in different areas. My paychecks go towards paying for the bills (electricity, water, trash, gas, etc.) while her paychecks go towards food and other things. We both ultimately know that we need certain items and that it doesn't matter who pays.

My point exactly. Reps. I'm glad my girl always wants to atleast split. I have enough money, but still, we're not in a SERIOUS relationship yet, it's rather new. Until then, 50/50 for sure.

Yes that makes sense....but we do not live together and therefore dont share those expenses. The only expenses she has is for her car and school loan.

My expenses:
Rent
Groceries
Electric/water
Gas
Car payment
Health/Dental insurance
Road Runner
Car/motorcycle insurance
Renters insurance
Gym membership
My two cats....yes they do cost money (food, cat litter...etc)
Anything that breaks down....
Dates

All that **** adds up to me living paycheck to paycheck....and not much money if any for new clothes, things I would like to buy myself...etc

If she has a problem then she needs to stop being cheap. My girlfriend and I alternate turns at paying. Mine thanks me everytime I take the tab.

Most girls are fine with this arrangement. If yours is not, then find a better girl. This isn't the 1800's anymore.

My gf and I live together. We have for a year now. She makes literally, double my salary and never minds picking up the groceries or dinner. Obviously, as a man, I wish things were different, but they are not and I don't care at all. She's way more caring about me putting as much money into savings and retirement than spending on dinners and clothes. I'll take a woman who makes more any day over a woman who makes less.

When you're seriously dating, she should be meeting you half way. I wouldn't stand for always picking up the bill. Especially if she has no bills.

Its only fair for her to pay as much as you do if she's making more.

i make a week almost what my grilfriend makes in a month...

but when we go out for meals and that, she always mithers to pay!

95% i always pay because its only fair...i have the extra cash to pay for it all.

whereas hers go's on insurance,, gym, petrol etc etc leaving her with diddley squat really.

the basic concept is, you pay for 2 meals, then she pays for the 3rd...rinse and repeat.

seems fair right?

If she is reasonable.. she would at least say lets do 50-50..
Its old fashion that the guy pay's everything.. a girl should be on her own.. not independant of others.. like bf's.. just mention it to (with a smile) that she should be paying you instead of you paying her drinks.. just look at here reaction and you know enough I'm 19 and I finnisht my education..

I make more money then the guy's I date.. the 1st time they pay..nxt time I payBut they are older.. and I also have my costs so its just 50-50..
