Pain/Discomfort in Back of Heel? (achilles)

I started to get some pain in the back of my heel last week, but did cardio anyways until the end of the week when it was at a point I couldn't even walk on treadmill without a severe limp and discomfort.

I'm guessing this is inflamation in the achilles tendon, right now I'm perfectly fine except for slight limp when walking around until I put my shoe on and reaggravate it (bought some cushioned running shoes to help with it)

The discomfort/pain is between the ball on the ankle and the heel. I'm just wondering how long will I have to rest and be off it until I am able to do cardio with no discomfort?

a basketball coach told me to: 1) change the shoes i wear and 2) face a wall and put the ball of my foot and toes on the wall and lean/press forward to stretch out the heel. Good luck brotha.

Ice it 4-5x a day for about 20 min and stay off of it. No cardio period for at least 2 weeks. Everything to do with cardio will put stress on it. If you avoid this injury it will lead to an achilles heel rupture and you will end up setting yourself back even more. By doing cardio you are putting too much bodyweight on the achilles that is not injured and in the long-run will end up messing that one up too. Do friction massage whenever possible.

If you have a rowing machine at your gym that is an exception, but make sure you dont use the legs.
