To Anyone Who's Interested
I hope these links work. This is a topic that seems to generate interest plus some guy at Equinox in Manhattan apparently picked up another guy and his bike and threw them against a wall because he was grunting too loudly.
My take on this has always been, yea, it's annoying but I just try to focus on my own workout. But try as I might if I even see someone sitting on a machine reading People magazine or talking on their cell phone (or better yet WHILE they're exercising) - just that annoys me.
What the hell, I guess we all annoy each other sometimes.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Interesting reading. Someone who is busting their butt lifting and grunting will sometimes pump me up. But, screaming obscenities or grunting and yelling while riding a bike would be annoying as hell.

It is annoying when it is super loud. Some people need attention for any reason. If the person is actually lifting a huge amount of weight, then I get it...or at least I am more understanding.
There is a guy at my gym that talks loud the whole time. He and his buddy have a private conversation with the whole gym...and he grunts always. Ug.

We had a guy at our old gym... we called him the "ooo-ooo" guy.
He made "000-ooo" sounds while lifting 10# dumbell fly's... yeah, that irritated me.
We never would do anything violent though. It just serves to give us something to giggle about.

These kind of people probably have a personality disorder or some kind of mental illness.
