They make a hybrid civic that is pretty good.
I still think the Prius is a better car though.
In spring 2009 Toyota is supposed to have their third generation Prius for sale that gets 80-100 mpg.
These hybrids are not so bad "subjectively" because the electric motor gives them strong low end torque. For example the electric motor in the current Prius makes 295 lbs of torque at 1600 rpm (<---That is a lot). Plus they are quiet and not buzzy like a typical old school economy car.

Anyone seen "Who Killed the Electric Car"? Food for thought. It's a pretty good documentary.
Here's a link to the movie streaming:

I had no choice. My mother became very ill and the only way I was able to secure a lone at the time (19 no credit etc.) was for her to put 10g's in a CD against my loan. When she got sick she was out of work for 19months and in the hospital for 53days so she needed the money and I sold it to a dealer for a the GT and they paid my loan off and she got her money. I assure I wish I still had it and may get one in the next few years. Let me see if I can find a pic. Will have to scan it....

hit $80 to fill up my SUV's tank yesterday for the first time...
I can't afford to buy a car and I doubt I'd get much trade in value for a 98 Dodge Durango with 175k+ miles on it... I still love that magnum v8 engine though"Every time you think you know what these markets can do, something else happens." - Brian Hunter, Amaranth Advisors
