Jess's Journey to Lean Legs & Luscious Booty!
Well.... Here I am... after lurking for quite some time I have finally decided to take the plunge. I have to admit you ladies are such an inspiration. I feel a sense of motivation every time I read through the journals. I contemplated putting my journal in the generic forum and then decided against it because there is sort of a sense of family in here and I also need a place to vent about my life in the dating world, family and all the other stuff we can talk about in here.
So, I guess a little background info is next.
Stats First-
26 years old
5'3
147 lbs
Body Fat is lingering at 26% now which is tough to see in writting but thats why I am here.
I live in South NJ close to the beach and do Advertising/Marketing for a Casino. I am also a Group X instructor at my gym. I teach Body Pump primarily and fill in for a few others. Body Pump for those of you who dont know is a total body weight lifting class choreographed to music.
Generally my diet is fairly clean but I am going to look to you guys for more innovative ways to eat. I am very very very boring and have my occassional binge of goodies. PLUS, I am a little bit of a wino. Being single and dating does not always lend itself to super clean eating. I will post meals so I can get some honest feedback.
OK 1 more fun fact before I send this off... I am in training to run the Nike Women's Marathon in October 2008. Its in San Fran and I am running in with Team In Training for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. This cause is near and dear to me as I have a friend who battled Lymphoma and beat it! I am sure I will be doing a lot of cheering and whining about my training along the way.
This turned out to be rather long. So I will post meals and workout this afternoon. Thanks for stopping by and I am excited about this journey!

Good luck! Keep training hard. My wife's only complaint is her legs. She also wants lean legs. haha

Good luck!! I'm glad you decided to start a journal. Thanks for stopping by mine too! Congrats on training for your marathon! I ran one last summer, so I know it takes a LOT of hard work and determination to get there - great job! Is this your first one?
I'm really looking forward to following along!

This is my first one. It has been a goal of mine for a while so there is no time like the present to get at it. I may be looking to you for tips. Where did you run yours?

yup, see the middle icon at the right side of each post? It has a piece of paper with " and a +. Click that on each post you want to quote, it will turn red. Then once you are all done selecting the ones you want to quote, hit reply.

Hmmm maybe its something you should think about. Having such a great cause behind me keeps me highly motivated!
How cool is this - Day 1 on the journals and I am multi-quoting. So much more to learn however! Color and Fonts... lol
Food and Workout coming next!

Haha... multiquoting on your first day - you are a quick learner!!
In answer to your question, I ran my marathon in Edmonton, Alberta (sponsored by ING). It was an amazing experience, SO I would recommend doing one to others, but I wouldn't do it myself again. If that makes sense!! For me, it's one of those "one in a lifetime" things... LOL.

Meals and Exercise Time
Alrighty... I figure I will blow the last 1/2 hour of work by posting my meals and exercise for review. This is a typical day in the life of me when I am not going out...
Meal 1 - Coffee w/ SF Vanilla Creamer, WW toast w/ PD or Fruit or CC (Friendship Whipped is soooo yum)
Meal 2 - Fruit or Oatmeal
Meal 3 - Salad w/ some form of protein (tuna, chicken) it usually also has some dairy in it (little feta or goat cheese), chick peas and olives.
Meal 4 - This meal depends on my activity (since I work out at night). If its a run day I will have a cup of ww pasta salad. If i left I will have apple w/ PB or yogurt
Meal 5 - Dinner runs the gammut. Sweet potatoe w/ cc and spray butter, ww pasta, salads, chicken, pizza lol
Meal 6 - skinny cow ice cream sandwich, sf jello, dark choc kisses.
I eat out a lot so that throws me for a loop often.
Workouts -
I probably weight train 3x a week, cardio 4x
Post more later... gotta go!

WO Recap
Ok well I got cut short yesterday because it was time to leave work so I wrapped it up quickly.
A little more detail on the workouts. Usually they are split and then I have a total body day on Thursday when I teach my one weight bearing class. The only muscle group I am not fond of working is chest (i have implants so its not the most comfy) but it def effects my upper body strength when I neglect those muscles so I am back at it now.
Sample week might look something like this -There is usually 30 mins of cardio after all lifting sessions.
S - Long Run 5+ miles for now
M - Chest & Tris & Abs
T - Back & Bis - Run
W- Leggers & Abs
T- Total Body
F - Shoulders & Abs
S - Run
My midweek runs are only around 5 miles for now. That will increase as my training increases and as the marathon gets closer.
Please feel free to offer tips and suggestions!

Today!
Good Evening All!
Just wanted to pop in and post a quick recap of the day. Today was my first official training run with Team In Training. It was really awesome... however they start REALLY early. We met on the boardwalk that runs along the ocean at 7AM! We did a solid 5 miles today... I probably could have done 1 or 2 more but didnt want to push it. I didnt go out last night so I was ok. We were supposed to head out to celebrate a freind's bday but she ended up not feeling great. I'll post meals next... they are a little low because I spent the afternoon on the beach.
M1 - Coffee & Banana (pre run)
M2 - 3 egg whites 1 whole egg scrambled and 2 pieces of WW toast
M3 - Fruit salad (pineapple, cantelope, honeydew)
M4 - tbs hummus and 2 little pita rounds and 1 stalk celery
M5 - Ahi tuna steak and GIANT sweet potatoe (I mean giant, probably 2 in 1)
M6 - I havent decided yet - skinny cow maybe or a apple w. pb
Calories Burned - 2501 (so far)
Intake - 1333 w/ out M6
Running in the am makes me super hungry all day but I tried to behave. I am trying to drop a few lbs along with lean out. BUT the run felt really good today. I am feeling really positive about the training.
What is everyones thoughts on glucosimine and condroiten (sp?) I bought a months supply today because of some aching in my knee.
Tomorrow is shoulders, abs and maybe just a little cardio to loosen up the leggers. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

I love your reason behind the marathon!! Very admirable!!
Your calories are really low considering the training you are doing....is this on purpose?
Sorry to hear about your friend...hopefully you can all go out when she gets to feeling better!

No wonder why you forget to take it frequently.... the dosage is 4 a day! I dont know if I can remember to take that many but I am going to try! I hope it will be beneficial to the running!

Dont be jealous... you are close enough to come down for the day!!!
I'm up early today... maybe it was all the rest of the weekend and lack of going out. Its amazing what one can accomplish in a hangover free weekend! I will post meals and wo later. I have to go to the gym tonight. Shoulders and abs today!

Glad to hear your super early run went well. I feel really hungry through out the day too when I train early. The body just wants to refuel.
I think those supplements would be great to help with your knee. Especially with how much running you are doing.
I agree with Mandy, your calories do seem low for how much activity you are doing. Do you feel hungry lots or have a lack of energy through out the day?
