Activating a "stolen" phone. (serious)

I broke my voyager but didnt' have insurance, stupid ****ty mistake on my part and if I could go back i'd have it. I can't afford the $470 retail for a new one or even the $150 for their cheapest phone retail

But my friend was thinking he could file his voyager as lost/stolen and get a new one if I pay the $50 for insurance.

Would I even be able to activate the old phone under my verizon account and phone number?

I mean yea this is wrong and I don't really want to do it. But $150 for their cheapest phone? And they can't do anything for mine because water damages voids the warranty. Hell my phone still makes calls and can text, it's just the screen is complete fuzz. I asked if I could pay and have it fixed and they said no....

I probably won't go through with it. My morals basically let me have no fun or phone in this case. But would it have worked?

It cannot be done. Once he reports it stolen to the insurance company and a replacement is issued they lock the esn number. Even if the original owner calls back to remove it from the lost/stolen list to unlock the esn, verizon cannot do it since the original phone is now property of the insurance company. I know, I worked for verizon
