    donating plasma?

ok so i hate to say that im gonna do it, i know it makes me sound pathetically desperate for money, but i actually kinda am rihgt now. basically i am starting a new job next week but i won't get my first paycheck until who knows when, and i really need some money! so anyways, i saw an ad for a plasma donation place that says they'll give new donors 40 bucks for their first donation and 60 for their second. I'm pretty sure im gonna do it cuz i really need the money and 100 bucks is a lot of money just to stick a needle in my arm and sit there for half an hour or so.

anyways, how bad will this be for my workout? obviously i'll have to stop lifting for a while, i know that donating plasma takes out out the proteins and hormones from your blood. so how long will it take for me to recover? im pretty sure you can't do your second donation until a few days after the first, so i will probably do the first at the beginning of the week and the second donation at the end of the week. how long after the second donation should i wait to resume my workout? obviously i won't be able to work out the same day, and im assuming it will probably be best to wait a few days to let my plasma and blood proteins return to normal.

also, what about cardio? should i keep doing that like i normally do (almost every day) except not the night of the donations (i'll probably do it the morning before donating... or would that cause me to be too catabolic after the donation?)

Don't plan on working out after giving Plasma. One of my buddies did it before practice and passed out during sprints

I tried it once and I guess I didn't eat enough beforehand because I almost passed out while they were doing it. My vision got all blurry, I started to get really hot, and my hearing was messed up. I called the attendant over and they returned the red blood cells to my body and it was the most amazing feeling. I felt like I was a battery that was being charged back up. I went from having 0% energy and almost passing out to slowly coming back to 100% as I watched the red blood re-enter my body. After experiencing that, I have a newfound respect for the human body and the way it works.

I donated blood once and haden't eaten **** that day. I was feeling just fine, talking with the girl and everything, then instantly I got dizzy and weird feeling. I said "I think I'm about to pass out" then next thing I know the girl is standing over me shaking me, theres another lady there and all the tubes and needle are off me. It was crazy, I think I was out for like 30 seconds. made me realize how easily and uncontrolable it would be to bleed out, but it was peaceful too.

I used to donate twice a week, just makes you tired and always made me really hungry right after. They told me not to lift anything heavy for at least two hours after to keep you from blowing a vein. They'll test your protein levels before you donate every time you come in and weigh you too to make sure that you're eligible to donate, just be sure to hydrate and eat before you try exercising

    not necessarily

I give plasma two times every week and still lift 6 days a week. I have never fainted, you just have to make sure your fluids are really high and are taking more proteins, vitamins, and nutrients than usual.

Calcium depletion may be part of the problem..?

To keep the blood from clotting in the machine they add sodium citrate which binds to calcium. Note that calcium is also critical to the nervous system. (And a whole bunch of other processes.) A good lifting session, or cardio, or endurance training is not just about your muscles or your heart and lungs. Your nervous system is a critical part of the work out.

I was wondering why I felt like my body wasn't responding the way it should, especially after the second weekly donation/sale. I suspect that the loss of plasma and the enzymes, anti-bodies, and hormones is only a small part of the effect on training. I think calcium depletion is a bigger part of the effect than people realize.

(I would post links as evidence, but since I'm a noob here, the forum won't allow me to.)
