I know the rule for losing weight is 1-2 pounds per week of fat, but what is the "standard" rule of thumb for how quickly you can gain muscle?

that's a good question. I doubt there's a limit to what is considered healthy, but it would be interesting to know an average amount that most people can gain with a good diet and workout plan. I'm sure it can vary a lot depending on genetics and a lot of other things but just a ballpark average figure, as well as a maximum figure, would be cool to know

I was guessing something like 1 pound per month, but I really have no idea.
I just want to explain better to my friends, who "don't care" that they are losing muscle with their fat when they cut why you don't want that to happen. Because it takes much longer to gain that muscle back than it does to lose it - or so I think.

I Really dont know the answer to this question..
But i think there are alot of variables..
Genetics is prob #1
nat test levels
Now when you come of a CUT (cal restiction)
as soon as you start feeding urself again you grow alot faster
and many others, so really depends how you do it..
And IMO you grow in spurts,, similiar to how you grow as a teen, you may not grow for a month, then in a week you put on 5 pounds
I feel i can put on (if i was to bulk) alot more than 1lb of muscle a month (alot more) but ofcourse at a point it would slow/stop..
So you would then have to mix things up with ur diet and training to trigure growth again, similiar to losing fat..
But really there are so many variables anything is possible IMOKeep Your Eye On The Prize!, Never lose sight of what you want.
