What is your diet/exercise routine like? You should be having whey right before and after workouts...you can add it at other times if you need more protein...

You don't need to include any powders in your diet. Aside from convenience, which can easily be compensated for, there aren't any benefits you won't recieve by eating whole foods PWO.

I include a wide range of foods in my diet so I never feel inclined to purchase any supplements (though I have in the past). It really comes down to what suits you and/or your lifestyle.

I'm a fan of jerky after workouts. Much easier to transport, and tastier. =)

I'm gonna echo dead-eye here for a bit: You don't NEED whey, but if you find drinking your protein convenient, or you're looking to add mass (drinking calories/protein is sometimes easier than eating), then you might want to try it out.

But everyone's different. Only you can figure out the best way for you to get in your pre/post-workout snacks.

^^^ Yep, if you are struggling to get enough protein throughout the day via diet, then a suppliment (as in to suppliment your diet) is recommended. 0.5g per 1kg of body weight is recommended.

If you take in too much protein, then your body will convert what it can't use to fat (just like eating too much of anything).

'Getting toned' involves losing fat. Lifting weights and cardio will help you with that. Eating whey protein will not do the work for you.

Have fun.
