Healthy food ideas for someone on-the-go
I am a technician who constantly travels throughout the day and I'm having a hard time coming up with healthy food items to take with me. I take my lunch everyday in a cooler, and since I never know where I'm going to be during the day, I can never count on having access to a microwave or even being able to run and buy something. Most of the items I take with me for my mid-morning and afternoon snacks are processed food items like PB crackers, string cheese or trail mix. For lunch I usually eat all natural PB&J on whole wheat bread or Tuna Fish salad, but I am getting sick of all of that.
I would really like to up my protein intake during the day as well, so if anyone out there has some good ideas or has similar problems, I would like to hear from you!

home made protein bars are good. lots of threads on those, and there are great simple recipes for both cutting and bulking.
i buy beef jerky whenever it goes on sale. oberto clears bulk amounts on their website from time to time.
i usually raid supplement stores for clearance protein bars. near-expired ones can sell for under $.50 per bar. not perfect (most are loaded with carbs and poor forms of protein, but it beats stopping at a mcd's).
depends on whether you're willing to eat your leftovers cold, but i'll take pretty much anything along with me. cut up some leftover grilled chicken and add fresh veggies. nothing wrong with that.

Buying protein bars is a waste of time and money. Packing meals with you is an inconvenience as well. If you are always on the go keep a tub of oats, whey protein, and gallon containers of water in the back of your car. Buy some disposable cups or keep a big plastic shaker with your ingredients. Mix and go.

yeah, that's way more practical.
the original question says "For lunch I usually eat all natural PB&J on whole wheat bread or Tuna Fish salad, but I am getting sick of all of that."
i'm sure he won't get sick of having a post-workout shake for every meal.

For snacks I'd recommend some nuts and some dried fruit mixed together. A personal favorite of mine is almonds and craisins. Ad mentioned already homemade protein bars, or if in a pinch regular ones. Maybe take some fruit with you aswell. Bananas, oranges, apples, so on. Also beef jerkey is a good option.
For lunch, instead of a PB & J sandwich, have a tuna one. I know packaged meats are usually high in sodium but maybe look into them as an option for your sandwiches. Hard boiled eggs are also a great option for extra protein. One of my favorite salads is just a simple garden salad with some shredded cheese and a sliced grilled chicken breast on top.
Hope some of these ideas help.

I need to look some of those recipes up. I think there are some I can find on an internet search also.
I was planning on making some low GI carb high EFA (walnuts, peanut butter, almond) protein bars and then putting the recipe on here when I am done. Apparently you can bake with Palatinose (isomaltulose) so I will probably be using that.
P.S. Here was a homemade protein bar thread I just found. ---> http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...t=protein+bars
