Throwing punches and jogging fitness type confused.
I can jog 3 miles fairly easy but i was just practicing throwing a few punches really fast and noticed i was panting.
Why is that?

Lance Armstrong ran in the New York Marathon and placed in the late 800s. He said that it was the hardest physical event that he'd ever done.
Cardiovascular fitness, as with strength, is exercise specific.

caus the muscles you use in a punch are untraind and weak, and becaus it's not the same kind of endurence, throwing punches (boxing) is anarobic and runs on interval conditioning, not joging for 3 mils, if you want to be able to paint a house, you shouldn't be doing math as a preperation for it (yes, it's THAT difrent from eachother)
if you want to punch(box), stop the jogging and start doing intervall sprints, and most importently PUNCH, get a heavy bag and go nuts..

wow strong lats
Chances are you keep your breathing patterned in running, but you don't think about it while punching. this causes your breathing to become ragged as you don't have enough oxygen intake.

runners run, swimmers swim, fighters fight...
you cant really expect someone with running fitness to be fit enough to fight, whole different ball game

a big part is your breathing, but also the type of endurance involved. punches are more like sprints. jogging 3 miles is more low intensity, high volume, where punches/fighting are the complete opposite. to get into good fight shape, you need a good cardiovascular base, but i would do a lot of interval and circuit training.
