Bob,
When you dieted down in the past for competitions did you cut carbs drastically, or keep your macros relatively the same, just cutting calories overall? I understand that different people will use different strategies, but I'm curious as to your approach and thoughts on it.
Thanks.

Bob, are quad striations (feathering) obtained through strict diet and training, or is it just a genetic trait (like peaked biceps or low lat insertions, etc.)?

I know that you think that training every bodypart once a week is optimal, does this both go for naturals and 'enhanced' athletes, or just the later?
Do you believe that almost all protein should come from whole food, or is it acceptable to throw in a few protein-shakes or weight-gainers in between?

Damn I never knew you were born in Rochester.. only a few miles away from where I live haha. Perhaps there are more local shows around here..

What's your best advice regarding packing on mass via diet and training? Do you believe in eating clean, healthy foods year round, or whatever is needed to pack on weight?
PS - Any plans on competing in the future?

As a young teen, would you recomend me to do a strength building routine like Rippletoes, or a bodybuiling routine?

Im hoping that this is a serious thread so im going to ask a serious question
What strategy do you employ for peaking for a two day show?
For example you have prejudging on Friday and finals on Saturday, youre confident that you will make the finals, so youre planning to peak on Saturday.
Just give a rough estimate of what typical eating would be on Friday and Saturday + water intake.
Thanks in advance.

Got a whole bicep training DVD we put out....I believe you can still get it from BB.com...
THat said....anything different from the norm will give you the shock value you're looking for.....
Pick one exercise and do 10 sets of it....do your routine backwards....super sets, etc.....

In the "old days" we cut them down waaaaaay too much.
Never counted calories, irrelevant to a BBers diet...however, we are "gram specific" when it comes to the individual values of foods (carbs, fats, protein)...
My last few shows, I kept the carbs slightly higher, and kept the cardio slightly higher to compensate....

Depends on the person, and what they seem to respond better to....
Guys generally tend to find their own way, by where there strengh lies.....
if they are stronger, they tend to respond to lower rep/ heavier weights.....
not as strong, tending to have more enduarance...higher reps. lighter weight

What do you use as cardio when dieting down/cutting for shows? Right now I use a treadmill when I wake up for 30 minutes 5 times a week.

What do you mean by "frequency"? Are you talking about number of times trained/ week?
Or are you talking about total sets/ exercise?

how heavy did kevin english weigh in at at the new york pro?
are you happy with the new 202 class?
will the winner of the 202 class at this olympia stand a chance in hell at the overall?
and one last one to finish it off, how is your training going, do you still lift regulary?

Interesting...
When prepping for a show let's say the first 8 weeks of dieting when calories are still not that low do you still try putting on muscle while dieting the fat off???
Because when you hear pro's like Heath talking during their preps. the mentally is to still building anything while shedding the fat, while when you hear naturals talking the discurss is more try to hold on the much more muscle possible, not building...

Both to an extent...but mainly from dieting/ cardio.
Lower the fat, more lines show.
