Creating an "atmosphere" during a PT session...??

an interesting topic for discussion. I wonder how many trainers ever give this any thought.

Do we ever give thought to the "atmosphere" or "vibe" that is created during a PT session? Whether we realize it or not there is a vibe or atmosphere present during our training sessions.

The same could be said of any human interaction. Specifically, all leaders tend to create a certain kind of vibe. Think about it. When you go hear a preacher, each preacher creates a different feeling or vibe. Each musical band creates its own vibe. Each Commanding officer creates his own vibe within his command.

So what are the various types of vibes created during training sessions??

Obviously there would sort of be the "George Patton" type of vibe where there is the obvious role of the trainer as war commander.

Then there'd be maybe the "Mickey" vibe of the grizzled old trainer pushing Rocky to new heights.

Then some trainers tend to create more of almost a singles bar type of vibe where it is a way more social atmosphere.

So what kind of atmosphere do YOU create in your sessions? Do u give it any thought? are there times when the atmosphere gets away from you and you feel you arent in control of it?

    Any thoughts?

I haven't started yet, but it is a really important thing to consider. I think the vibe should really depend on the client.

I'm very social with my clients. Maybe a little too much but I can't help it. I bartended for a long time and I guess the habit carries over. Especially during our warm-ups and cool-downs, I am very talkative.

However, I do manage to keep my clients' spirits up during particularly intense workouts. Especially since I am an old-school kind of guy and have no problems making a "daddy's little princess" do some good sumo deads without gloves. I love it when the girls ask me if they can use gloves and then I say "Why is it cold outside?"

Yep the vibe is something i;ve picked up on from the start. It changed from client to client. You pick up what to do from their personality and commitment.

Some people like a calm and steady motivator that will basically pat them on the back the whole way, some people want an upbeat and energetic vibe to it and others what a whipcracking bootcamp taskmaster to push them to the limits.

Find the right vibe/mood and your clients AND YOU will enjoy it more.

If I had my choice it would be 80% bootcamp work your ass off push out that last damn rep kinda thing, and a little bit of a social atmosphere between sets during w/o and after session.

The atmosphere deffinetly changes sometimes though, since my gym gives me new clients sometimes I don't always have the option of picking out my own. So sometimes I have to tone it down. Especially for the older men and women.

it does definitely depend on the client on the type of vibe you put out.

for most of my clients I try to be as upbeat as possible. I try to be loud, but not obnoxious, in a fun way. That way my clients are feeling pumped and willing to keep moving. I also do this as a marketing technique. You're always being watched. When you're out there training your client you have almost 10 pairs of eyes on you.

i have noticed and seen on the corner of my eyes how others respond when I'm really loud and pushing my client. people's eyes and ears are perked up when they see that excitement that I try to bring to my client's sessions.
