im 16 right now and i decided a while ago i wanted to become a personal trainer i am currently working on my physique (cutting) to better be able to sell my self(and compete in the future)and was wondering if i start working now and put aside 300 to 600 dollars now by the time i turn 18 i just wnna get certified by ace will this be enough to start a personal training career. (i took the proficiency test to get out of school early to follow this career choice. i also have bought and borrowed a few books on it like becoming a personal trainer for dummys.and am 100% posotive this is going to be my career. any suggestions as far a certification or schooling go? also as a personal contractor at a gym how much should i excpect to make the first year (ballpark)

There is a village where the barber shaves all those and only those who do not shave themselves. Who shaves the barber?

No need to flame the guy. Comments like that are why this forum has a terrible reputation. If you don't have something positive to say to the OP, then don't say anything.
To the OP:
Getting ACE certified is a great way to start your PT career. My advice would be to get your ACE cert and get a job at a local gym. I wouldn't really attempt to be an independent contractor at the age of 18, no offense its just thats a bit young to be your own boss in a field you have no experience in.
After you get some experience you can possibly go independent. Try to always further your education thru school or other cert's as well.
As far as salary goes thats a huge variable. Some ppl make much more than others, and it depends where you train as well with regard to the going rate of PT's in your area.
Goodluck

no man - wasn't sarcasm - I'm serious -
You're 16 and you've full decided you want PT to be your career -I wish I'd done the same thing -
This is the best career IMO - easy and fun to do, high paying, and sky's the limit -
Also, I've never met a major trainer that had training as their first career choice -
I'm glad to see things are changing -
Good luck man - PM if you got any q's

I just noticed you work out at home. I would suggest investing in a gym membership before you decide being a PT is what you truly want to do

oh i have worked out in a gym before i like the atmosphere but theres always someone using something i wanna use and its too much hastle to go there and back all the time so i just took the money i was usin on the gym and bought a bench and some dumbells and i think that works pretty well.and plus i cant afford to pay the membership and gas money and i drive illegally and have no job so yah no its really just not an ideal situation, me goin to a gym.

Thats awesome man, I've been pretty well set on my future in the field of physical fitness/nutrition (not positive if i want to train, nutritionist, etc.) for quite some time as well. Getting into your career as soon as possible and having the drive that you seem to possess to make this career your life are going to do alot for you. That being said, you might want to give some thought to getting a 2 yr or even a BS in kinesiology, sports med, excercise physiology, or even business management (could be a minor) if you want to own your own PT business. I only say this because there is currently an enormous surge of people getting certified and becoming PT's without college education and you have to ask yourself if you're going to be able to compete well enough out in the job market. Having an education that many trainers lack is going to set you apart and in the near future I think this is going to become more and more valuable as Employers begin to have such a large pool of potential trainers to choose from. Whatever you choose to do, good luck with it! stay big brother
