good dumbbell rack around $200
Hi all. This is my first post but I have been browsing around for a while now.
I'm looking for a dumbbell rack (2/3 tier) that will hold at least 9 pairs of pro style dumbbells. I have 6 feet length to work with. So I was thinking about one 6 feet 2/3 tier or two 3 feet 2/3 tier next to each other. weight capacity needs to be at least 500 lbs.
I went to academy, sports authority, and dicks but found crappy ones only. I can't spend $200 for a rack online based just on a picture without any reviews.
I looked on ebay and amazons, as well as yahoo, but they are all just pictures without any solid reviews.
If someone here has actual experience with a good rack please give me some input. I'm in the DFW TX area and if anyone know a good store selling large db racks please let me know.
Here's what I have found so far that looks good, again based on picture only:

I have the Body Solid rack and I also bought the third tier and it`s one of the best racks I`ve seen in person. Almost gym quality. I like it a lot. Now I can fit from 10lb to 75lb dumbbells with the exception of the 55lb dumbbell pair which I don`t have.

I've searched this forum and found several good ideas on how to build one.

HardKore79, you have the Body Solid GDR60 right? I like the look as well. Where did you get yours from? $? Can you buy that 3rd tier separately?
dolson27, yeah I saw a thread with a built dumbbell rack. I just don't trust wood and nuts/bolts when I have +500lbs sitting on top. I don't have the time either to build one nor the power tools.

I bought it from Fitness Factory but they are local to me and I picked up the rack for $155 and the third tier for ~$65. I like BS stuff. Most of my equipment is BS, except the bench. I picked up a Cybex bench since I want my bench as solid as possible.

I bought two commercial racks from Christian's Fitness in PA. They were used, but for 50 bucks each I can't beat it. I could park my truck on them. Both 2 tier for my 5-100's prostyle set I also bought there. I saw some other used ones there, but if you aren't in PA, Im not sure what shipping would be, but I'd check it out.

I'd opt for the Cap 3 tier one(2nd item), shorter length will add to stability and it will hold all your db's
A buddy sells these and they seem very decent for the price, 12 gauge is decent, do NOT buy the 14 gauge ones, these always feel flimsy

jhashey, thanks but I'm no where near PA. I browsed around on Christian's Fitness and the price was pretty good, but I didn't see the shipping cost
ctgblue, thanks. I think I like the cap better than the bs because it's cheaper
I did a search again and came down with final 3 racks I'm considering:
-CAP Barbell RK-3E
I like cap stuff. all my plates are made by cap. it only hold 9 pairs, fit my minimum requirement

-Keys Fitness STDB5
Just found this and it looks NICE. don't know much about it though. cost more than the cap, longer, cheaper than the BS

-Body Solid GDR60 with optional 3rd tier = too much $?
well over $200 for a 3 tier. Keys is better than this i think?

So I might pick either the CAP or the Keys. What do you guys think? THANKS !!!

I'd get the Cap from warehouse fitness if I were buying one and did not need any more room, so think whether you will add more or not

thanks ctgblue, the cap only holds 9 pairs looks like and it's 48" which leaves me with 2 feet or free room. I have 13 pairs of pro db and I don't want to leave the extra 4 on the floor.
the keys is 61" which only gives me room for 3 extra pro dbs than the cap. I also have to pay $55 extra...
I think the cap is more cost effective.
what's your opinion on cap vs keys as far as quality goes? Thanks !

I don't know the keys, but I think they are similar in build

Thanks ctgblue. I'll pull the trigger on the CAP by tomorrow if I don't get any bad review from people.

Get the body solid rack. I've seen it in person and it's REALLY nice. You can start off with 2 tier, and always get the 3rd tier if you want to expand.
Alternatively, you can get two of these...

Thanks USER876, but I have already ordered one CAP 48" 3 tier. the BS is only 40" and I don't have room the fit two side by side.
-
Registered User
Did you have room for the GDR60 which is 61" long?
-
Registered User
Yes I do have enough room (72" total) for the BS GDR60 but I can't persude myself to spend ~$100 extra from the CAP 48". I would be only fitting 3 more DBs for $100 more. I don't think it's worth the extra.
-

I have seen the GDR60 as cheap as 111 and an extra 45 bucks for the third tier.

Shoot, where? I can't find one that's less than $200 with the 3rd tier
