    Anyone freelancing?

Just curious to see if anyone is freelancing/training independent outside a gym and how much are you earning? I am in the process of getting strength/conditioning certification and was wondering if anyone is doing anything like what Joe Defranco does.

I'm indipendent, Its pretty straight forward, I have a membership my clients have a membership plus the gym gets about 10%. The gym also is listed as a secondary on the insurance. As far as the income its not bad, I'm not wealthy by any means though...

I'm independent. Big factor is creating a business identity and effectively justifying your rates. I'm $90 an hour, which is about normal where I'm at. Actually a little low. I train kettlebells so I don't need a gym, I share a storefront with another trainer. He works 6-noon, I train 1-9pm. It's the way to go, no non-sense to deal with, no one to answer to.

Yeah - In my opinion if you're not an independent trainer, you're not really a trainer at all (with some very, very rare exceptions) -

And yeah, charging 90 an hour is the norm in most big cities, and if you've got a little marketing smarts you'll soon have to start turning clients away -

I've got a blog devoted to my life as an independent trainer and the industry in general where you'll get a lot of info on this:

    http://super-trainer.com/

Check out the interview I did with Billy Polson - he runs a trainer's gym in San Francisco that something like 95 trainers train out of, in case you were wondering going solo was viable - most of these trainers just run their businesses out of his space -
"Do what you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life" - either Confucius or the Dalai Lama - I get them confused -
