Alternate ice and heat. Reason being is the heat can make the inflammation worse if used too much. It sounds like it's not completely pulled, so be careful on how you move. Also sounds like it could be sciatica nerve pain since it happens when you move. That gets worse when you move around and better when you don't.

Did you do anything working your lower back...deads, pehaps? It could be a number of things from a pulled muscle to a muscle strain. Try doing a cold/heat treatment. First, apply a cold pack to the area for 20 minutes, then do the same with a warm pack. Alternate for an hour and a half to two hours. That ought to help with the tightness and pain.
*EDIT* Aries beat me to it.

Not sure what caused it I had chest yesterday morning and even though this has been bothering me all day I did back today. I know probably not the smartest thing to do but I hate missing a workout. Hopefully the ice will help

Also, how far down does the pain go down? Is it a shooting pain? If so, then it could quite possibly be sciatica involved. This could be caused by a number of things, but most often, a bulging or herniated disc. As Aries said, be careful on how you move, and take a break from any lifitng for a few days. Keep alternating the heat and cold treatment. Hope this helps man...and I hope you feel better.

Not smart at all, man. You may have aggravated the injury. I know how you feel about missing workouts, but trust me...it's better for you in the long run. I was stubborn and I wound up having to have surgery for my bulging disc and my herniated disc.

I know man I travel a ton for work so when I can get a workout in am pumped. The crazy thing is that during my workout my back felt great. I didn't do deads which I normally do, so I did take it easier then normal.

So it's not the lower part of your back? If it's right at the lower part of your lat, it could be a pulled muscle or an inflamed nerve. keep doing the heat/cold treatment, but also take some Tylenol or some Ibuprofen to help the inflammation.

Where does the pain end? Usually sciatica pain starts in the lower back and radiates down the buttcheek on one side. It either stops there or continues down the leg of the same side.

starts at the lower lat area and goes up to my lower neck and down just above my buttcheek on my right side

I have been dealing with that (a shooting pain) for the past month or so. Almost to the point I can't stand up straight. I tried a chiro but it did nothing so I just learn to deal with it. Never thought about a bulging disk. Would an MRI show something like that

With my injury, the pain went all the way down to my calf from my lower back. It was hell at night because the pain would wake me up...like a dull, aching pain.

Chiro won't do **** for you man (serious). A bulging disc or disc herniation will definitely show up on an MRI. A shooting pain usually means there's pressure put on the nerve from the disc. Talk with your physician and see about getting an MRI.

Hmmmmm....not exactly sure about that. Could be a pulled muscle or disc injury causing nerve impingement. It's hard to say without knowing the exact type of pain you're feeling. I'd be very careful and if it doesn't get better with home treatment in a few days to a week I would see a doctor.

Yes. I had an MRI done a little while ago. I have four herniated/bulging disks, Stenosis, and other stuff I don't understand...lol. Possible arthritis in my back and all of this at the ripe old age of 28.

Yeah...I truly feel your pain. I had to just break down and have surgery. I still feel pain and stiffness from time to time, but not nearly as bad as before the surgery. Have you considered it (surgery)?

I'm seeing a neurosurgeon the 22nd to discuss my options. My regular doc is sure I'll need it if I ever want to feel normal again. She thinks it's pretty severe.

I have the referral just have not gone yet but I will. I keep getting a tingling down my back and then it hits my calves. Got so bad that I went from deadlifting in the 500's to not being able to do 225 without pain. You guys convinced me to go-thanks

Good. I'm still working on another person to go. Let us know how it goes. Hopefully you aren't in as bad of shape as me

Yeah...Go ahead and do it. I waited almost 6 years to gat it done, mainly from just being stubborn and fear of getting worse. The longer I waited, the worse it got. I went from a pulled muscle to a muscle strain to a bulging disc to disc hernation to disc herniation with degenerative disc disease...So it got progressively worse.
Wow...we're soulmates!

hahaha....yep. I've noticed mine getting steadily worse too. It's now affecting my legs. My knees ache a lot and sometimes I get weakness. Not good.

Good. I would also suggest leaving the deads alone until you get an official diagnosis. No use aggravating the injury. Another thing...Say no to the cortisone spinal shots; they don't do ****! I'm pretty sure Aries can back me up on this.

I haven't gotten any actually, but I've heard they only help for a short time.

There can be a lot of speculation on NSAIDS and half assed physical therapy but I went through that **** for 3 years with my back spasm. Until this weekend, I was in constant pain and couldnt sit up for a long time, or do half the stuff I wanted. I finally got it fixed by my chiropractor. Nothing has beaten it. 5 minutes with him, back spasm gone after 3 years. No more shoulder pain, neck pain, all of the sudden great blood flow everywhere, better endurance at my tournament.
3 years of vicodin, temazepam, diazepam, like 8 NSAIDS, physical therapy, all amounted to nothing. 5 minutes with my chiropractor, done. I wouldnt have believed it if it didnt happen to me.
But, 90% of chiropractors are stuck in the old methods of jab and snap and crack so look carefully.
God bless/science be with our military
