Thoughts on Bill Hicks?

Yea the guy made a lot of good points (imo) and did so while being very funny at the same time but I've been watching some of his shows and reading transcripts and it's basically the same stuff every time.

I know there's other comedians whose routines tend to follow the same themes most times they perform but it seems like it was the same show everytime with Hicks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fan but it would have been good to hear some variety from a guy with such a cool take on things.

Or are there other shows of his that I haven't seen that DO deviate from the usual themes? (aliens, drugs, goat-boy...etc)

He was a stand-up comedy artist by profession but an amazing one at that...he obviously had a routine like any stand-up like Jerry Seinfeld or anyone would have, but the points he made were so funny and so true...and oh yeah:

By the way; I've never seen Denis Leary do stand-up but it is true that he's basically just a Hicks rip-off?

I love Bill's one skit when he talks about how the news was reporting LSD.

"A man on acid jumped off a building thinking he could fly. What a tragedy. What a dick! If he thought he could fly why didn't he take off at the ground first?!"

And when the media, at the time, as paranoid about rock and roll, he was like,

"If you think Jimi Hendrix/etc. (rock and roll) is the devils music, then I have something to say to you. If I had to choose whether I let my kids listen to the choice of New Kids on the Block and Jimi Hendrix, then I'll gladly go to hell surfing a lake of fire! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

And his theory that by the year 2000 all malls in America will be connected to eachother, LOL.

and one of my fa vorite skits, again

I could go on, he had so many funny things to say. It's probably a good thing he passed so early because , judging by the the message of his skits, I don't think he'd want to be alive during today.

Not too familiar with Denis Leary all i remember is that he wasn't really that funny. Not really a hicks ripoff but he just had that off the wall attitude like Bill.

bill hicks however was a genious, the type of guy who i agreed with on every single point he made, and enlightened me on a lot of subjects too like drugs and real-world type of stuff. Here's some good stuff from Bill:

He was a very good comedian, but overrated in my opinion. And so incredibly smug and pleased with himself.
