    In-home personal training. Which type?

If you had to choose between going to client's homes and training them with portable exercise equipment or have them come to your home since you already have a decent home gym set up that you can easily turn into a home studio, which would be a better choice?

I thought of a few cons and pros for each but wanted to get some input. I also noticed that most trainers here work at a health club. Are there any trainers that does in-home or work in training studio. Please share your experiences.

I train my clients at my house in my garage which I've converted into a gym. The only real negative is the noise levels early in the morning when my wife's still trying to sleep. I have to be somewhat considerate of the neighbours also, I don't want to put them offside and have them hassling me all the time. Other than that it has been pretty good as it means I don't have to travel and can schedule clients one after another without wasting time.

I'm more concern about the liability and legality issues. Did you need to have a lawyer go over your training agreement? Do you need a business license or any kind of additional insurance on top of the personal trainer's insurance? More importantly, can you do a tax write off on your training equipment? Thanks.

Going to their homes is what I wanted before. Now with public transportation going down the tubes in Chicago, I've been dreaming about how cool it'd be if I had a nice loft near the loop and set aside a section just for training people. I swear...training someone for 1 hour means I space off a whole hour before and after that for commute...if they come to me I can stack people within 10 minutes of each other.
One rep, one set, one meal...one day at a time. You build a fortress brick by brick.

Yup, those are definitely the cons - If you're seeing people on location, you need to charge a premium for all the extra effort it takes you -

In terms of legality, I don't think it's a problem - make a provision for this in your waver - make a few while you're at it -
"Do what you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life" - either Confucius or the Dalai Lama - I get them confused -

I've been training people in their homes/offices for several years, but prefer working in a place where more equipment is available. Maintaining progressive overload is difficult when your resources are severely limited.
