    About this Log:

Even though I am on a restricted diet, the actual Cut, per se, is OFF for this Log. This may be revised at a later date, but as to now, I'm planning on not running any thermos unless I see how the vast amounts of activity I have in mind shake out. This also means I won't be keeping any diet numbers, either, though I will be staying in those restrictions, as noted, at least for now. I'm also not particularly concerned about the measurements for this Log, though I'll probably keep taking weight measurements here and there.

The idea here is to test the ever-loving **** right out of Nimbus Swell. They gave it to me to put it through the paces and there's 80 servings, so I should be able to really get a good feel for it. Sebastian at AEN has also asked that I try IntrAbolic in a fashion I have not previously, which was delayed by my excitement over getting the Lemonade Purple Wraath. I will also wind up doing that. In fact, I will probably be directly comparing Swell to both of these. I'll say up front that I consider IntrAbolic the greatest thing I've ever used intra-Lifting workout and that there is nothing even remotely near Purple Wraath for Cardio workouts. I have used Purple Wraath in a Lifting setting and while good, it does not compare to IntrAbolic, at least not favorably. I'd put it at probably second place (distant though it is) for Lifting.

So, we will be looking at IntrAbolic in a Cardio setting, specifically as regards biking, wherein the products tend to be consumed during the actual ride itself. Sometimes I stop, mostly I don't. We will be looking at Swell in this same setting and additionally in the gym during Lifting workouts and comparing Swell directly to all of these and probably adjusting the serving size as well, as I've done with many of those others. I also will be moving ICE to a new setting (Cardio only), so that will wind up being directly compared as well. This is going to be an interesting test as I'm going to not only insert Swell for direct testing in usages I already have established, but I'm also going to possibly devise new tests for it (and the others, possibly).

Last words before the battle is engaged:

Those of you who follow my Logs know what to expect from me. Those who didn't can find out here:

Every Log is different, but I try to post daily. As always, I will mark the posts so readers can tell which is an actual Log post and which is grabassery. I will also re-measure everything at the end of the Log.

For the workout days, I will be posting the exercises and the weights used, excluding warm-up sets. I will just mention the exercise I used for warm-ups. I will also attempt to make commentary on the various methods (drop sets, super sets, et. al.) when I am using something beyond straight/static sets. Cardio will be the exercise used and a few other factors, some meaningful to me and more for my use, some for more general information. I will further specify exactly which AA product I used for the workout.

Special thanks to that white devil, Leonidas300 and the Nimbus staff for this Log.

Finally and most importantly, as always, thanks to all of you for joining me on this adventure.[/QUOTE]

Amazing Detail, but are u taking Swell and IntraBolic right now?

Are you using them on alternating days rather than one, then the other?

(if this is a comparison log, if not then disregard this whole post)

thx in advance an answer, I'm just a little confused.

I took a couple weeks off from Lifting. I just got the Swell tonight. The first Log post is coming...

I am not going to be using them on alternating days, no, though one, then the other would be alternating, so I possibly don't understanding your question. This is a comparison Log, yes.

    Workout: Cardio
Equipment Used: Trek 7.3FX Road Bike
    Test Supplement Used: Nimbus Swell
    Duration: 55 minutes/11.4 miles
    Driver: None
    Calories: between 695 - 1400 (calculated)
Quality Level: Good. I worked mostly on take-offs and acceleration, so a lot of start-stop stuff. I'm going by the bike timer, which I think is off, so I'm probably going to start taking along a stopwatch with me from now on or at least double-checking with my cell phone. I was overall generally satisfied with how I responded as well as how the bike responded...

Observations From The Deck: As noted, today was when Swell arrived and never one to stand on ceremony, I decided to test it right off. The formulation is an interesting one to me, seeming sort of an energy booster along with an endurance agent. The taste, while not unappealing, was very, very light. I think I'm probably going to need to use more than the two little scoops they're calling a serving size. I also am not intending on taking this twice daily, as the instructions indicate. Since this is to be a direct comparison to other AA products, I feel it only fair that I use Swell in the precise manner I use the other products, none of which I take more than once daily, if that. In the interests of disclosure, I suspect that they are suggesting this for the same reason MAN Body Octane also did, which was to load the beta-alanine. Since AEN IXL already has that well-covered and has for some time, I don't feel any necessity for more than a single serving daily, though input from the Nimbus crew is always welcome.

Anyway, taste and dosing aside, I must admit that I was not particularly impressed with Swell this evening. My Legs were and are slightly sorer than they have been previously after and during a ride (compared to using either Purple Wraath or ICE), which is one of the reasons I believe I need to rework dosage. Endurance did not pose any particular issues and was normal in comparison to previously.

Auxiliary Intel: I should probably speak somewhat on what I have been using during the rides, starting from the last Log (ErgoPharm AMP2) and through the last two weeks I took off. What I was doing first was taking ICE and making up a mix of 4 scoops and going with that. I found that to be rather unsatisfactory given the usual intense nature of the rides and switched to the new Purple Wraath the same day I got it. Since then, I have been using Purple Wraath at 1.5 or 1.75 scoops per 20 oz. of water and things have been golden. I wish the taste of the PW Lemonade was a bit stronger, but other than that, no real complaints. PW is definitely the Cardio powerhouse for Swell to beat as much as IntrAbolic is the ringer for Lifting.

Tomorrow, I'm planning on trying Swell out during the Chest workout and probably will not be riding tomorrow as I'm hoping to get a Leg workout in at some point on Sunday and I dislike using Legs the day before a Leg workout. I don't know that I'm really going to be judging Swell as the first few workouts back after a layoff are usually throw-aways for me. Depending on how Swell performs tomorrow (probably going to bump it to 3 scoops and see what's what), I may go with it again on Sunday for Legs or ride IA again. I'm really interested to see what Swell does in conjunction with ClearShot, though...

    End Transmission

unless you already used IntraBolic in the past and you now use IntraBolic as a staple?

I have used IntrAbolic since it has been on the market and it has appeared in every single Log I've done since then. I used Purple Wraath (Logged it also) for almost a year straight before giving it a little rest for few months before April 2008. I've also used ICE enough to know what to expect. I've also Logged Body Octane.

In short, what I'm telling you is that I know very precisely how Purple Wraath functions in both a Lifting and Cardio setting, because I've used it extensively in both of those settings and prior to today, was using it currently. I know how IntrAbolic works in a Lifting setting because that's all I've used intra-Lifting workout for the past 7 or 8 months. I know what to expect from ICE from having tinkered with that over the last couple of months.

So, hopefully you're still with me here, what all that was doing was establishing a base. I don't have a base with Swell, so that's going to take me a bit to work out and it also means I'm going to put it through the paces. The question(s) at hand are these:

Is Nimbus Nutrition Swell comparable to every other AA product out there?
Is Nimbus Nutrition Swell better than every other AA product out there?

    Workout: Chest/Arms
    Test Supplement Used: Nimbus Swell
    Exercises Used:

    BB Flat Press = 2 Warm-up sets
    Vertical Press Machine = 4 Work sets (215X4, 200X5, 185X6, 170X8)
    Dips = 4 Work sets (BWX4*,6,6,7)
    DB Flat Press = 1 Work set (50sX4) {Aborted}
Hammer Decline Bench Machine, Wide-Grip = 3 Work sets (180X6,7,6)
    Overhead DB Tricep Extensions = 5 Work sets (85X4, 80X5, 70X6, 60X8, 50X10)
    Close-Grip EZ Spider Curls = 4 Work sets (75X8, 80X8, 85X6X2)

    * = Stopped set due to oncoming Right Hamstring cramp.

Quality Level: Very Good. In some ways, this was a better workout than I planned on having. The Spiders, for instance, I was able to run at a lot higher poundage than I had anticipated, once I got myself situated. The Chest workout was ok, though everything seemed abnormally heavy on that as well as on the Triceps Extensions, even though I was purposely using lighter weight than I normally would. I decided that I wanted to try to go a bit wider and start working on Chest width a bit, as I'm going to be getting away from the higher reps I had been doing previously. I tried it with DBs, but at the point where I was ok with form, it started to really impinge my Right Shoulder, so I dumped it.

Observations From The Deck: I was slightly happier with Swell today than I was during the ride yesterday, but far from overjoyed. I ran it at 3 scoops today, which made the taste more pronounced, but not especially concentrated or changed, if that makes sense...it still tastes watered down. I'm using about 18 oz. of water.

It reminded me of a somewhat muted Purple Wraath in the gym in that Lifting is better with it than without it, but doesn't seem to have the same "push" as IntrAbolic. I'll test more with this, of course, maybe even running 4 scoops and see what that does. I also need to really look into this product and try to get behind where they're going with this...it almost strikes me more as a hydration agent than anything else...

Auxiliary Intel: This is going to be a very tricky time ahead with my screwy schedule. I really want to get out and ride, but I'm not going to, in deference to my Leg workout tomorrow. Legs are somewhat sore from yesterday (I don't take the PWO drink post Cardio, ever), which is irritating and something to which I'm unaccustomed. Neither ICE nor Purple Wraath had that effect...

Anyway, I unfortunately have to run 3 consecutive Lifting sessions due to the band playing (at least tentatively) on Tuesday and some work-related bull**** on Wednesday. So, the workouts are going to be Legs tomorrow sometime (I have **** going on tomorrow also), Back on Monday and then Shoulders on Thursday. Friday is almost certainly going to be OFF as I either want to do Legs or go ride with the bicycle race shop group on Saturday morning. It is hard to figure out what to do with the Leg workout, as riding is much more appealing to me than nearly anything else at the moment. If I skip the Leg workouts, though, this will delay the hitting the 1/2 ton for reps on the Inverted Leg Press goal...what I might do is try to figure out what kind of time frame I'm going to be looking at re: the Leg Lifting goal and then decide how and if riding with the group is going to fit in. As soon as the weather gets nice, I'll be riding almost daily to work and back, which means that moving Legs to one of the weekdays is pretty much out...

    Workout: Legs
Test Supplement Used: Athletic Edge IntrAbolic
    Exercises Used:

    BB Squats, Super-slow + Deeps* = 3 Warm-up sets
    Inverted Leg Press** = 4 Work sets (575, 665X8, 755X6, 845X4)
    Good Mornings = 4 Work sets (135X10, 145X7, 150X6, 140X1***)
    Seated Calf Raises = 4 Work sets (225X10X3, 225X12)
    Standing Calf Raises = 4 Work sets (270X10X3, 270X12)
    Towel-Assisted Ball Crunches = 4 Work sets (BWX25)

    * = Warm-up weight felt really light, so I went down until the bar hit the stops on the Squat Rack. Super-slow was kind of interesting...
** = This is an LE-408A Body Masters machine. The sled weight is listed at 125 lbs., so I have revised all of the numbers to reflect this.
*** = Body was not going to take this set, so I bailed on it.

Quality Level: Excellent. It has been too long since I did Good Mornings and I did a really stupid thing, which was apparently forget how to do them with the form I like. It took until the middle of the third set before I hit the groove and I very much should have done a practice set with just the bar to get the motion down. As it was, it recruited far more of my Lower Back than I wanted, which is forcing me to try to stretch the strain out...this also means Hams got worked less thoroughly than I would have wished...

The real question here is how long will it take me to hit 1,000. Today was 16 plates. I will need to hit 20 (easier to figure that way, even if it is 1,025 lbs.). Before I knew how much the carriage weighed, I would have said August. As it is now, I think it is very possible to do it before my currently planned vacation in the early part of July.

Observations From The Deck: Despite me doing a piss-poor job with my diet yesterday, no soreness on the worked parts today.

I went with IntrAbolic because going in I needed to try to get in a somewhat quick workout and I didn't want any surprises and wanted to basically just ride tried and true. This is not to say that Swell would not have fit the bill, just that I wanted to use something I'm more intimately familiar with...

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday was that Swell did seem to give ClearShot more of a focal edge than previously. I'm really interested to see what it does in conjunction with Steel Edge...it should be pretty unreal.

I only have a few servings left of the opened tubs of Steel Edge and IntrAbolic, so once I finish those out, both of them are going to be leaving this Log, as I note that some people have used Swell as a pre-workout supplement also. I will probably try that as well, Swell as a pre-workout both with and without Swell intra-workout.

I just barely opened the Purple Wraath, so that will probably show up throughout the Log, though as it is more of a direct comparison to Swell, I probably will not be using it anywhere near as much as well. Same with ICE.

One thing that I will say for Swell. It mixes far better than anything else in this category. This is not especially a huge issue with me, but I believe it does bear mentioning.

Auxiliary Intel: Plans that made me rush the Leg workout today are now back up in the air. If my Back is better by then, I will probably go out and get a ride in, if those plans fall all the way through.

    Workout: Back
Test Supplement Used, Pre-Load: Athletic Edge Steel Edge
Test Supplement Used, IWO: Nimbus Swell
    Exercises Used:

    Lat Tower = 3 Warm-up sets
    1-Armed DB Rows, per Arm = 4 Work sets (90X6, 100X4, 95X6, 85X8)
Middle Of The Back DB Shrugs = 2 Work sets (60sX8X2)
    Hammer Seated Rows = 4 Work sets (135X6X2, 125X8, 115X9)
    1-Armed Yates Cable Rows, per Arm = 4 Work sets (100X10, 145X8, 130X8X2)

Quality Level: Very Good. I noticed some new vascularity in my Forearms, which was interesting. This was a surprisingly decent workout, considering energy started flagging badly towards the end and that I was pretty tired going in, as well as having my Lower Back MIA in general.

Observations From The Deck: As predicted, Swell in conjunction with Steel Edge gave some pretty seriously absolute focus. This is useful to note, but not particularly necessary as I'm nearly always up for Back day.

One thing I ran into was a huge loss of energy towards the end of the workout. It strikes me that this is somewhat of a problem. Since I've been training with supplements that have some degree of caloric value (even when I was running PW, it was between 45 and 60 calories), using one that has at most 20Kcal (at 3 scoops) does not translate into a sustained energy. To accommodate, I will have to remember to rethink how I load calories pre-workout.

Quads are slightly sore today and Lower Back was shot this morning to the point where I elected to skip biking in today. I got maybe 3 - 4 hours of sleep last night, none of it more than 2 hours continuous and woke up at least 50, 000 times during the night. I've worked out like that before, but it struck me that to bike would be to sacrifice the Back Lifting workout and screw that. Tomorrow should be better for riding, since I have a maybe rehearsal later and then Wednesday is OFF entirely, with no biking or Lifting. Tomorrow I also intend to see how Swell functions as an energizer by taking it at 4 scoops tomorrow during the ride into work.

Auxiliary Intel: I have made a change to how I do the Logs in that I'm going to start posting what I'm using as a Pre-Load supplement as well as the Intra-Workout (IWO) supplement in order to better compare/contrast.

The current standards are (weekdays, Lifting) Pre-Load: Athletic Edge Steel Edge, IWO: Athletic Edge IntrAbolic (weekends, Lifting) Pre-Load: ErgoPharm ClearShot, IWO: Athletic Edge IntrAbolic, (all days, biking) Pre-Load: Nothing, IR (inter-ride): Controlled Labs Purple Wraath.

    Workout 1 of 2: Cardio
Equipment Used: Trek 7.3FX Road Bike
    Test Supplement Used, Pre-Load: None
Test Supplement Used, IWO: Nimbus Swell
    Duration: 36 minutes/7.5 miles
    Driver: None
    Calories: between 454 - 907 (calculated)

    Workout 2 of 2: Cardio
Equipment Used: Trek 7.3FX Road Bike
Test Supplement Used, Pre-Load Xtreme Formulations ICE
    Test Supplement Used, IWO: None
    Duration: 30 minutes/7.5 miles
    Driver: None
    Calories: between 378 - 756 (calculated)

Quality Level: Good. Going in this morning was leisurely and going back considerably faster, though I was facing down a wind for most of it on the return.

Observations From The Deck: Taking 4 scoops of Swell is pointless as it didn't seem to help much of anything and did not result in any sort of energy burst. It also made it taste somehow worse, like it was dusty. I will be either knocking it back to 3 scoops for the next ride (tentatively Thursday) or possibly going with Purple Wraath to compare, probably the 3 scoops.

ICE works considerably better pre-loaded than it did trying to take it during the ride, so I will continue to sip that at my desk before the return journey home. Typically, I want to get home from work as expeditiously as possible, so there's not a great amount of time to drink anyway.

Auxiliary Intel: Sorry for the brevity today, but I'm trying to get this in before my drummer comes to pick me up to take me to band practice...no rest for the wicked (or the weary)...

It's the muscle and the fact I am fairly lean already...I am just cutting the little fat I gained on my last bulk...if I eat less - I can't lift crap and walk around dizzy all day...at 1700 I can still lift heavy (175 on deads today) and still progress...

but sweetie why are you eating so little? at 208 and moderate activity and I guessed at a %BF has your BMR at a 2264 and your AMR/maintenance at 3549 - 2200 isn't enough!! unless I am missing something??

    I am cutting and I eat 1700 a day - my maintenance is 2050...

so how did you come up with 2200?
My metabolism is pretty sluggish, though lately it's been on overdrive...I've been running it closer to 2500 for a while and just forgot to update the first page correctly when I started the Log...I have to be very careful with not only how many total calories but particularly with what macros constitute them.

I came with 2200 sort of the same way you did...2000 consistently was leaving me weaker than I wanted and 2500 was slowing down the fat loss too much...2500 is more or less maintenance prior to the bike...I will probably have to re-figure at some future point, but for now, 2500 is working out ok...I can gain extremely well at 3000 calories and higher, so putting weight back on is not really any sort of issue.

I didn't? Well, that's just crazy talk. I'll have to work me over a little for that lapse.

I absolutly know you would be well researched...just checking - that is a slow metabo - glad you keep an eye on it because all the working out can eventually kick it into a higher gear (as you are seeing now with the 2500 cals)

    I remember mickfootie

I will hang here for a bit with ya....interested in seeing how the biking goes...

also I am unoffically testing a VO2 product for endurance (obviously for hockey) - I am pleased so far...I will be posting results in my log from time to time, I will let you know my final conclusion...

    Cheers Em

The 2500 was a ramp-up...I'm probably going to lift the total caloric restriction entirely and change the carb limit as well...

Yeah, I would like your thoughts on that...
    Morning Em,

We are keeping different hours I see...but yes a while longer than a bit

the VO2 I am taking is Millennium Sports Cordygen VO2 - I tried to get into Spaceclowns group of testers but Tim had already selected the winners when I saw the post...which is too bad because I actally play an endurance sport which is what they really wanted to test. (of course I kicked him for not thinking of telling me in the first place!)

So I bought it and told Tim I would write in a review after a while...

I play my second game on VO2 tomorrow night..the first game was fairly impressive...my wind ran out before my muscles started screaming (where before usually my muscle start to scream before I get terribly winded) - anyway I must play at least 3 or 4 more games to be sure...

I recieved the sled that Den made me yesterday and had my first Sled Dragging session - it was freaking amazing and will be awesome for the hockey legs and butt! (details are in my log as usual) I FINALLY got my tax refund and ordered a power cage so I can use my long bar wihtout a spotter --- the smith machine I only rig up now upper and lower pulley work...

I hope you are enjoying the weather...it's rainy here today but it has been nice...we both went through a God awful winter and deserve the sun to warm our bones

    Have a great day!

I have some Champion Revenge Pro that I will be trying at the conclusion of this Log, which looks pretty exciting and should fill the same purpose you mention...I'll let you know how that one goes...
