Flacco has good athleticism, good size, and a strong arm... that's why he stood out at the combine, and why he was drafted in the first round.
He has potential, but I think he'll have a much more difficult time adjusting to the NFL than say Ryan, Brohm, Booty, and Henne. Those QBs all have experience playing against top level competition in college, and played in a more complex, nfl style offense than Flacco did.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how his rookie season goes...
|
the thing with henne is, although he did play in a pro-style offense, he did prety bad against college defenses so i'm not too convinced that henne will do a good job

Flacco will be a bust in the NFL.
Awesome, he played for one of the best 1AA conferences. But for a guy who was picked in the Top 20 of the draft when he played against poor competition and didn't even put up monster numbers, well, that says a lot.
23 TD's and 5 picks is above average but not great if you're playing for a Big-Time D1, school, not for a 1AA school.
Now, with his size and supposed arm strength, if he put up sickening numbers things would be different. Think about the defenses he played against week in and week out. 99% of those guys will never play a down in the NFL. Probably 0% will ever start on an NFL team. You can't go from playing a bunch of nobodies to the best players in the world.
Flacco was the biggest reach in years. He's raw, that's it. He got so much attention because this was a pathetic Quarterback class.
Troy Smith > Flacco.

all of you guys forgot to mention that he rarely took snaps under center. he was usually in the shotgun, which isn't something a NFL offense usually uses alot

Joe Montana was drafted in the third round and Brady was drafted in the sixth. Bottom line. We have no clue what will happen to any Qb's career.

I think Flacco will be the best QB of the 2008 Draft Class.
He has an excellent arm, he's smart and he's accurate. I could care less what competition he had in college, he has the tools.
I think the Ravens found their QB of the future. And I'm serious.

You guys are gonna LOVE Flacco. If they play Yamon Figgurs then Figgurs could be your guy's future WR. Flacco has A MONSTER for an arm, him plus Yamon who is one of the fastest players in the NFL could be quite deadly.

Joe Montana and Tom Brady were both good quarterbacks for high profile colleges.
Flacco went to Delaware.

Even if he is (which he won't be), that won't be saying much. This was a pathetically weak QB class this year.
There are plenty of guys that have great arms, are smart, and accurate and don't make it.
You could care less what competition he had in college? Well you certainly should if you're going to make a claim that he's the best in his class.
If this is the Ravens QB of the future, then they better restock on defense, because Ray Lewis is getting old, and so are several others.
And why did you sign your name at the end of your post? That makes no sense.

I have heard of and watched Flacco throughout his college career. I have friends that go to the University of Delaware and have seen a few of his games. He has an immense amount of talent and an incredible arm. With that said, many before him have had more talent and have failed to make it. He certainly has the skill to make it in the NFL but whether or not he will is an entirely different discussion.
Troy Smith will likely be your starter going into the season. If nothing goes well, I would expect to see Joe Flacco taking the field some time in the middle of the season.

i love reading threads during draft times about how players are going to suck and how much of a bad decision it was...granted some don't work out, but there is a reason nobody on this board is a scout for an NFL team and we don't see your smiling faces at the combine

The jury is still out on Flacco.
And I'm sorry, but 2971-14/12-80.3 is not a good stat line (last year), and he's had one game this year so far.
He was a first round pick, and unless he turns out to be a great QB, he'll be a bust since he was picked so high.
Oh, and did you comment on this when he was drafted in this thread? Wait, you didn't.

Ahhh.....no.
Not like Flacco went #1 overall here. Besides he doesn't need to pass for 4000 yards and 35 TDs on that team.
But yes the jury is still out.
