"This was no suicide. She had a 'book of clients' as all good madame's do. She didn't buckle to pressure for release to the Feds but said if they went after her she would expose everyone. She was hedging her bets....the best she could do..... It was a risky game.

No hooker would ever 'hang herself', its not the feminine style suicide and jail time isn't good enough reason.

    This was Murder."

"There is an interesting article on www.rense.com from the site Raw Story. It says that TARGETS of Bush Justice Department prosecutions (and Palfrey was one of these of course) and their lawyers have been the victims of break-ins, burglaries, arson fires and cars run off the road. In the break-ins, no valuable items like TV's, jewelry or money was taken, but legal, personal and business documents were rummaged through, taken and/or burned. In one case a Bush critic had her house burned down. If you start a fire, you are risking loss of life - from the owner, neighbors or fire fighters. So clearly they are willing to kill people. But we already know that - ask the friends of Danny Casolaro, Gary Webb, Cliff Baxter, David Kelly."

"This article shows a pattern of Bush enemies being targeted for prosecution on trumped up or dubious charges, THEN they and/or their lawyers being subjected to break-ins to illegally gather info, or arson or car runoffs to kill, wound or scare them."

    http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Breaki...wers_0430.html

"This story on I mention above on Bush enemies being targeted for illegal info gathering, intimidation, arson and even murder attempts is WATERGATE TIMES TEN, yet no mainstream media coverage yet."

An Academic Journal using falsified tests disguised to look like they're generating authentic results creates 100% false but scientific findings because there is no such thing as a fluoride deficiency, and Fluorine is the most reactive element on the periodic table and is destructive period. If ANY amount of fluoride is beneficial, then ANY amount of Prozac is beneficial, and Prozac is a DRUG, and the active ingredient in it is Fluoride which is 94% of it's makeup. Any and all tests showing otherwise are automatically false. ALL American [______________] Associations are NWO controlled period, ALL OF THEM. Your journals might as well be toilet paper. Meanwhile, have some fun with this:

LOL talking about bad sources while you use conspiracy theorists websites. I use PEER REVIEWED SCIENTIFIC SOURCES. We would be lucky to find a source for yours. And they are authentic results and you can describe it as lack of fluoride if it was proven that fluoride is needed to help teeth decay.

There toilet paper cuz you don't like the truth or the other side. But plz go ahead n use your google searches and conspiracy theory website.

Quick question for some of the doubters (not saying i agree with Anti even though from the little i've read it does look highly suspicious, but i haven't researched it enough) but is there anyone in here who does not believe that the CIA, MI6 and other secret agencies actually have compartmentalised black ops groups, who CAN and HAVE performed assassinations in the past?

    Paul Joseph Watson

DC Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey predicted she would be "suicided" on several occasions both recently and as far back as 17 years ago - comments that now appear ominous in light of the announcement that the former head of a Washington escort service allegedly killed herself today.

"If taken into custody, my physical safety and most probably my very life would be jeopardized," she wrote in August 1991 following an attempt to bring her to trial, "Rape, beating, maiming, disfigurement and more than likely murder disguised in the form of just another jailhouse accident or suicide would await me," said Palfrey in a handwritten letter to the judge accusing the San Diego police vice squad of having a vendetta against her.

During several recent appearances on The Alex Jones Show, Palfrey also said that she was at risk of being killed and that authorities would make it look like suicide. She made it clear that she was not suicidal and if she was found dead it would be murder.

Palfrey had threatened to release the names of well-known clients of her upscale call girl ring in the nation’s capitol, and had indicated that Dick Cheney may be one of them.

"No I’m not planning to commit suicide," Palfrey told The Alex Jones Show on her last appearance, "I’m planning on going into court and defending myself vigorously and exposing the government," she said.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

She warned of this because she knew very well that they had done it to so many before her. The ones who think this woman killed herself are the ones going out on a limb. They are the ones who are comical in a tragic way.

****, it just gets worse and worse. It is sad is that the sheeple will swallow the 'suicide' story just like all the other 'wet jobs' ie. the murder of Dr David Kelly and so many hundreds of others. It is sad they will swallow it just like all the other bull**** from this cult of a secret society controlled nondemocratic international government that continuously builds its power via lies, deceit, theft, false flag warmaking, problem-reaction-solution tactics, murder, and all other crimes and betrayals of public trust they can get away with.

I really dont think the criminals give a **** if we know or not anymore- at least those of us who seek truth that is. There is a majority segment that has always believed them and followed the story like a good little bunch. Suicide - Easy solution to a potentially difficult problem. Erase it. They have the means and the motive, and no one can prove a thing and they know it. I wonder if the sealed records exist anymore. The most important things have probably already been purged, and the remaining dust being swept up as we speak.

To those of you in this thread acting like its a shock that anyone would think this a murder and not suicide - Do you think this sort of crime is anything new? Have you been living under a rock? Damn.

Anti-Illuminati may go out on a limb sometimes, but at least he/she is seeking the truth of many things that most of you are unaware of, should be aware of, and simply stay blind subjects to.

This country was founded by a secret society and controlled by them ever since. There are only two ways to defeat a secret society:
    1) By another more successful secret society
    2) By a very active and open-minded public society seeking truth against criminality at all fronts and exposing it until the truth hits critical mass

    I'll take option #2.

It seems some weren't aware of this whole story from last year.

'DC Madam' threatens to bring down Washington

    April 29, 2007

The demise of a call-girl ring and pending trial of an alleged madam claiming thousands of clients has the US capital riveted by the chance powerful men may now be caught with their trousers down, with a senior state department official apparently first to fall.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 50, dubbed the DC Madam in local media, has been arraigned in federal court on charges of operating a Washington DC prostitution service for 13 years until her retirement last year.

Palfrey has denied she ran a prostitution ring. Her company, Pamela Martin and Associates, was simply a "high-end adult fantasy firm which offered legal sexual and erotic services across the spectrum of adult sexual behaviour and did so without incident during its 13-year tenure," she said.

Palfrey contends her escort service provided university educated women to engage in legal game-playing of a sexual nature at $US275 ($333) an hour for a 90-minute session, the Washington Post reported.

But Palfrey has also hinted that she has a record of the phone numbers of thousands of more than 10,000 customers that could embarrass more the a few of the US capital's high-fliers.

The US State Department announced yesterday Randall Tobias, the embattled head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), was resigning for unspecified personal reasons.

However ABC News, which said Palfrey has provided it with a record of the numbers of calls to her private mobile phone, reported Tobias stepped down after they spoke to him about his allegedly contacting her number.

Since 2003 Tobias also was President George W Bush's first global AIDS coordinator, a job which drew criticism for his emphasis on faithfulness to partners and abstinence over condom use in trying to prevent the spread of the AIDS virus.

Before entering government he was chairman, president and chief executive of the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, and also, from 1997-2000, chairman of the board of trustees at Duke University.

His now-reported links to a firm accused of prostitution have raised more than a few eyebrows.

Palfrey's California home and other assets were seized by US tax authorities in October, and Palfrey has been trying to raise funds for her defence through an appeal on her website.

Her lawyer, Montgomery Blair Sibley, told Fox television last month: "The statistical certainty (is) that there are a fair number of high-profile people who used this service across the government and private sector in the metropolitan DC area."

And the Post reported on Saturday local jitters appear to be multiplying. It said Sibley claimed "he has been contacted in the past few days by five lawyers asking whether their clients' phone numbers are on Palfrey's list of 10,000 to 15,000 customers from 2002 to 2006."

That may have something to do with the fact that Palfrey already has named her first name, as it were, on her website, where she has posted a court document from April 12 in which she alleges formal US naval commander Harlan Ullman was a "regular customer" whom she needs to subpoena.

Ullman, with James Wade, developed the military doctrine of "shock and awe" used by US government in its invasion of Iraq. According to one definition, it is shorthand for rapid dominance based on the use of "overwhelming decisive force", "dominant manoeuvres", and "spectacular displays of power" to subdue the other side.

Earlier this month Ullman told CNN: "The allegations do not dignify a response," and referred any other questions to his lawyer.

    D.C. Madam Spoke Of Suicide

    May 1, 2008

(CBS/AP) The so-called "D.C. Madam" vowed she would never go to federal prison for running a high-end Washington prostitution ring. Not even for a day.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey made good on that promise Thursday when she went to a shed outside her mother's mobile home and hanged herself from a rafter with nylon rope.

The 52-year-old Palfrey was convicted two weeks ago of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican. She was free while she awaited sentencing on July 24.

Dan Moldea, a Washington writer who befriended Palfrey while considering writing a book about her, recalled a conversation with Palfrey over dinner last year when the subject of prison came up.

"She said, 'I am not going back to prison. I will commit suicide first,'" Moldea said.

Palfrey's 76-year-old mother, Blanche Palfrey, found the body in the tiny shed outside the pink and white mobile home in the community of mostly retirees in this Gulf Coast town 20 miles northwest of Tampa.

"She opened the shed to go in and she found her daughter hanging there," said neighbor Irwin Matthews, 73, who saw Blanche Palfrey hysterically calling for help after the discovery.

Police said Deborah Palfrey left at least two suicide notes and other writings to her family in a notebook, but they did not disclose their contents.

Blanche Palfrey told investigators she had no indication that her daughter, who had been staying at the house, was suicidal, police Capt. Jeffrey Young said. There was no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

"This is tragic news and my heart goes out to her mother," said attorney Preston Burton, who represented Deborah Palfrey in her trial.

A federal jury convicted Palfrey on April 15 of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering. Palfrey had denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge.

The trial concluded without revealing many new details about the service or its clients. Vitter was among possible witnesses but did not take the stand.

Channing Phillips, the spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in the District of Columbia, said that under sentencing guidelines, Palfrey faced about five or six years in prison.

"I'm sure as heck not going to be going to federal prison for one day, let alone four to eight years, because I'm shy about bringing in the deputy secretary of whatever," Palfrey told ABC last year when she released phone records that revealed some of her clients. "Not for a second. I'll bring every last one of them in if necessary."

Prosecutors said Palfrey operated the prostitution service for 13 years.

Vitter, a first-term senator who is married and has four children, has acknowledged being involved with Palfrey's escort service and has apologized for what he called a "very serious sin." But he avoided further comment.

Besides Vitter, the trial also concluded without the testimony of military strategist Harlan Ullman or Randall Tobias, a former senior State Department official. Both men had been named among possible witnesses.

One of the escort service employees was former University of Maryland, Baltimore County, professor Brandy Britton, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. She committed suicide in January before she was scheduled to go to trial.

Palfrey said last year that she, too, was humiliated by her prostitution charges, but said: "I guess I'm made of something that Brandy Britton wasn't made of."

Palfrey had threatened to release the names of well-known clients of her upscale call girl ring in the nation?s capitol, and had indicated that Dick Cheney may be one of them.

"No I?m not planning to commit suicide," Palfrey told The Alex Jones Show on her last appearance, "I?m planning on going into court and defending myself vigorously and exposing the government," she said.

Yeh option 2 becomes a bit of a problem though when you have indoctrination and predictive programming on a massive scale, designed to dumb down the population

    1) school - a complete brainwashing camp, especially when it comes to the history kids get taught etc
    2) media - the 'news', where they blend all the horror/sports/entertainment into one, where everythign becomes SURREAL and people generally don't give a ****. i mean in one article you got a man keeping his daughter locked in a basement for how mnay years, then the next i'm hearing ronaldo got caught with cross dressing prostitutes, followed by ken livingstone is close to losing the london mayorship - LOL
    3) hollywood - predictive programming
    4) vaccinations - autism, cancer rate skyrocketing, mens sperm droppping by 75% since the 50s etc
    5) chemtrails combined with HAARP - tests have already shown they contain barium amongst other chemicals - god knows what else they're spraying us with
    6) the farce of democracy - lol - giving the public the impression that they actually have any say inthe agenda

theres much more, but it's a losing battle i'm afraid. theres a reason why the country's been going down the toilet and the elites have planned it from day one.

hell, even mentioning the word consipracy will get a thread hijacked with someone posting something about reptiliians or tin foil lol

"She said, 'I am not going back to prison. I will commit suicide first,'" Moldea said.
    ...
    ROFLMAO.

Inform yourself about Dan Moldea -->

Dan Moldea tells us he was Deborah Jeane Palfrey’s friend. Moldea, an an independent crime reporter, wanted to write a book on Palfrey. Now that Palfrey is dead, Moldea tells us she confided in him. “She wasn’t going to jail, she told me that very clearly. She told me she would commit suicide,” Moldea tells Time Magazine. “She had done time once before [for prostitution],” Moldea recalls. “And it damn near killed her. She said there was enormous stress - it made her sick, she couldn’t take it, and she wasn’t going to let that happen to her again.” Instead of enduring anywhere between 71 months to 55 years in prison, Deborah Jeane Palfrey decided instead to kill herself.
[After she told everyone else the exact opposite of what he now says... and also said that she knew she would be a target...]

Larry Flynt, Hustler publisher and free speech advocate, is having nothing of it. “I think the media should be very cautious in treating this as a suicide,” Flynt told Fox News in a telephone interview from his Beverly Hills office. Fox asked if he believes Palfrey was murdered and Flynt responded, “I personally believe that’s what happened, but I have no proof.” Flynt worked with Moldea, described as an “investigative reporter” by Fox, “to break the story that the phone number of Sen. David Vitter, R-La., was among those numbers in Palfrey’s client list. Flynt targeted Vitter because he had campaigned for office on a family-values platform.” Vitter remains in office and has not been censured, even though he came under intense public criticism.

“She did not have the demeanor of the type of person that would carry certain signs of suicide, like being withdrawn or depressed,” Flynt told Fox. “You know, those are the kinds of signs that you look for. She didn’t display any of those traits… She was very friendly… Very bright. She was by no means a dummy. She knew what she was doing.” Fox headlines the story with Flynt’s comments thus, “Death of ‘D.C. Madam’ Becomes Rich Ground for Conspiracy Theory,” leading the casual reader to conclude that asking obvious questions about a woman who threatened to out VIP clients is nothing short of conspiratorialist hyperbole.

As it now stands, Palfrey’s “friend,” Dan Moldea, is the only source, quoted by numerous newspapers and news websites, most notably Time, to claim an intimate understanding of the mental condition of the so-called D.C. Madam. As should be expected, the corporate media has taken Moldea’s assertions as gospel: Palfrey, unable to face years in prison, killed herself. It is, for the corporate media, a tidy way to close the case and not breach a larger and more far more portentous issue - Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who threatened to release the names of well-known clients of her call girl business in Washington, had made an unknown number of powerful enemies that wanted her dead. She had indicated Dick Cheney may have been one of her customers.

However, there are problems with the testimony of Dan Moldea, problems that put his assertion about Palfrey in question. “In 1995, Dan Moldea wrote his apologia for the LAPD… for their handling of the Robert F. Kennedy assassination,” writes Jim DiEugenio for Probe. It appears Moldea fabricated a Sirhan B. Sirhan quote. “Moldea had provided Sirhan B. Sirhan a chance to fact-check an eight-page report culled from his visits with the prisoner,” writes DiEugenio. Moldea claims Sirhan had wanted to shoot Kennedy between the eyes, but “that son of a bitch turned his head at the last second.” Sirhan denied such an exchange and Sirhan’s brother Adel, present during Moldea’s visit, also denied the exchange took place. Moreover, Lynn Mangan, Sirhan’s chief researcher, found the comment hardly tenable. “I flatly deny making the statement Moldea ascribes to me in his book,” Sirhan declared in a letter to Mangan.

Moldea’s book on the RFK assassination is nothing more than an echo of the official story - Sirhan acted alone - thus cementing his reputation as a “conspiracy debunker,” never mind his sloppy work on RFK and Sirhan.

Is it possible he is once again attempting to debunk a “conspiracy,” this time that Deborah Jeane Palfrey did not commit suicide and was in fact killed for what she knew and what she appeared ready to reveal?

It is awful suspicious that Dan Moldea suddenly surfaces, within hours of Palfrey’s alleged suicide, to claim friendship and a unique insight into the woman’s mental condition. It is suspicious because Moldea has established his reputation as a “conspiracy” buster and because he has an apparent history of creating quotes out of thin air.

Wow! Like this one isnt obvious as hell!

When I first heard of the DC Madam situation I thought they would try and take her out. When I heard she had been found dead my jaw dropped. The poor woman should have been carrying a gun or done something else more substantial to protect herself like going into hiding or hiring security etc. She had very damning criminal info on top gov officials across the board from the DoJ to NASA to the Executive and Legislative and just about every Department in Washington DC. Nancy Grace detailed it last night on her show and she doesnt believe it was suicide either. The madam had said she would spill some major monumental beans at her upcoming sentencing hearing and out a lot of high ranking officials, possibly including even Dick Cheney himself according to hints by the madam. Dead women tell no tales just like dead men. CNN is doing very heavy Damage Control right now propping up the official story. The professionals will cover every inch of their tracks. There probably wont be an evidence for murder if anyone or any shill like Nutsy54 is demanding it.

BTW Chandra Levy was killed the same day(May 1st) of the year and probably by the same ritualistic thugs. Chandra Levy was killed 5/1/2001 exactly 7 years prior to the DC Madam.

Slobodan Milosevic was killed in prison just before he was scheduled to testify about the new world order and criminal UN activity leading to genocide and framing him. He was killed 3/11/2006. Just like the DC Madam, he warned they would try and kill him first just days before they did. He even sent a letter to Russia's Putin begging his help to prevent this from happening.

Yeah its sad but things are looking better every day IMO. More and more people are waking up like a gathering storm. A confrontation is building fast.

Hey guys, here's a fact that might shock you: "24" is a fictional TV drama, not a real-life documentary. Just saying because many of you seem so wildly gullible, you probably think the stuff in that show could really happen.

"She wasn't going to jail, she told me that very clearly. She told me she would commit suicide," author Dan Moldea told TIME soon after news broke of her body being found in Tarpon Springs, Florida, an apparent suicide. Palfrey's body, along with a handwritten suicide note, was discovered by police in a storage area attached to her mother's mobile home. Palfrey contacted Moldea last year to provide her help writing a book. "She had done time once before [for prostitution]," Moldea recalls. "And it damn near killed her. She said there was enormous stress - it made her sick, she couldn't take it, and she wasn't going to let that happen to her again."

Moldea, apparently, isn't a very good reference.

It's very suspicious. They had all the motive in the world to kill her.

I've only ever watched part of one episode of 24.

you really are a child. I bet your no older than 16 or 17. For someone who claims to be 32, I've certainly never seen your act your age. Do you not realise that TYPING IN ALL CAPS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOUR WINNING. You just made yourself look like a fool with your resorting to name calling and yelling.

Eerie Flashback: DC Madam said 'I'd never want my life to end in suicide'

L to R: Montgomery Blair Sibley, Deborah Jeane Palfrey and Carol Joynt hold a lunchtime discussion in May 2007 at Nathans of Georgetown.

Eerie Flashback: DC Madam said 'I'd never want my life to end in suicide'

When Deborah Jeane Palfrey (aka the "DC Madam," who was found hanged in Tarpon Springs, Florida on Thursday) sat down in May 2007 for an interview with Carol Joynt, host of the Q&A Cafe interview series, most everything was up in the air: Palfrey faced a criminal indictment on prostitution charges and was fighting courts over how to handle thirteen years of phone records which contained the phone numbers of many clients of her escort service.

But, for Palfrey, one thing was crystal clear during that interview: She would never end her life by hanging herself.
Joynt brought up the subject of Brandy Britton, a Baltimore prostitute whom had occasionally worked for Palfrey and whom had hanged herself in January 2007, only days away from facing prostitution charges.

Palfrey told Joynt in no uncertain terms: "I don't want to be like her. I don't want to end up like her." In the months following the interview with Joynt, Palfrey's fortunes took a turn for the worse. In April, a federal jury convicted Palfrey of running a prostitution ring and she awaited her sentencing on July 24, where she faced up to six years in prison.

In the end, Palfrey's proud and defiant statements about Britton's tragic end couldn't stop her own sad conclusion, and it all too closely tracked the final days of her former employee: A woman caught up in an illegal world of sex and money, and for whom the pressure ultimately became too much to bear."

"Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, who talked to Palfrey, says many of her clients were Democrats and other Bush critics. She refused to name these people to the feds. That is probably why she, out of the TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ESCORT SERVICES IN THIS COUNTRY (JUST CHECK YOUR PHONE BOOK) WAS SINGLED OUT FOR PROSECUTION, IN HOPES SHE WOULD CUT A DEAL AND NAME ALL DEMOCRATS AND BUSH ENEMIES AND KEEP SILENT ON ALL REPUBLICAN NAMES. Instead, the names leaked were Repubican Senator Vitter, Deputy Secretary of State Tobias and Pentagon advisor and "shock and awe" creator Ulman.

This was a political prosecution intended to score points against the Democrats, just like the targeting of Spitzer, and when Palfrey refused to play ball and turned the tables against them, she was railroaded into a 55 year sentence for something tens of thousands of others do with no prosecution at all. Now she is found dead. Even if she actually did hang herself out of despair, she was still murdered by the Bush Justice Machine. But given the number of Bush enemies who have been found dead by "suicicide" and the number of Justice Department targets who have been subjected to documented instances of break ins, burglaries, arson and even murder attempts, there is every reason to doubt the suicide tag."

"Sen. David Vitter In D.C. Madam's Book

    POSTED: 7:22 am PDT July 10, 2007
    UPDATED: 5:59 pm PDT July 10, 2007
WASHINGTON -- Larry Flynt is claiming credit for outing Sen. David Vitter's connection to the so-called D.C. Madam, and a New Orleans madam has stepped forward to claim that Vitter was a client in the 1990s.

Hustler magazine publisher Flynt said his staff called Vitter's office Monday, saying they knew his telephone number appeared on a list from Deborah Jeane Palfrey's escort service.

"Vitter ran to the Associated Press in an attempt to get ahead of the story," Flynt's office said. In a statement released late Monday night, Vitter said he "received forgiveness from God" and his wife several years ago. Vitter, whose telephone number was disclosed by Palfrey, said he is sorry for a "serious sin" and that he has already made peace with his wife.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in a printed statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way." Vitter lives in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie with his wife and four children.

    Brothel Names Vitter As Client

Jeanette Maier, known in New Orleans as the Canal Street Madam, claimed Tuesday that Sen. David Vitter visited her Mid-City brothel beginning in the mid-1990s. According to Maier, Vitter would pay $300 an hour for services.

"He seems to be one of the nicest men and most honorable men I've ever met," Maier told New Orleans TV station WDSU. "I think that he was smart by going to a brothel, whether for talking or whatever. Then, he goes home and he's with his family, and he loves them -- he doesn't want to leave them -- and he just needs someone to listen to."

She also said that although some of his visits were at the Canal Street bordello, others were during fishing trips and other activities with fellow politicians. However, Maier's attorney, Provino "Vinny" Mosca, said he had "absolutely no recollection of David Vitter's name ever appearing on any document, book or list, or having any association" with Maier. Maier still has a black book she claims is filled with the names of clients to her brothel, which was closed in 2002 after a federal investigation.

    Palfrey Fights Charges

Palfrey, meanwhile, has been accused in federal court of racketeering by running a prostitution ring. Palfrey contends, however, that her agency, Pamela Martin and Associates, was a legitimate business. Four days after a federal judge lifted the restraining order, Palfrey posted on her Web site thousands of pages of phone records dating from August 1994 to August 2006.

The list is only phone numbers -- no names. She said she posted the records because she believed pirated copies got out, and she wanted to insure the integrity of the information. Palfrey also said she wants to find witnesses for her trial.

Federal prosecutors claim Palfrey ran a prostitution ring that pulled in more than $2 million over 13 years. But she said Pamela Martin and Associates was a legal adult fantasy service. Palfrey and her attorney have said the list contains up to 15,000 people and could shake up Washington by revealing high-profile individuals. A Harvard graduate and Rhodes scholar, the 46-year-old Vitter was elected to his current office in 2004, becoming the first Republican from Louisiana elected to the Senate since Reconstruction. He represented Louisiana's 1st Congressional District in the House from 1999 to 2004.

In the House, Vitter succeeded GOP Rep. Robert Livingston, who was in line to replace Newt Gingrich as speaker until Livingston admitted to extramarital affairs and quit Congress. Livingston was one of a number of lawmakers investigated by Hustler in 1998-99 in what the magazine called an effort to expose hypocrisy among congressmen critical of former President Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky."
