what exactly do you do in the cutting phase?

So I am definitely a newbie to bodybuilding- not working out tho...what/ how do you do cutting phase?

Ideally you take in less calories than you burn while getting enough of the proper nutrients to keep your muscle. The idea is to lose only fat, cutting usually implies a goal, a show, photos, beach, vacation or some reason to get leaner...or even just life style change.
