If it hurts enough to make you concerned chances are you should give yourself a break. The last thing you want is to worsen any condition. Pain usually equals inflammation. If there's inflammation then there's an injury. Could it be minor? Sure, but why make the condition worse. It never hurts to get it checked out.
If you go to a good ortho/doc they can usually do a range of tests that will help them determine severity of injury.
