army or navy?
I got turned down from the USMC for enlistment even though I'm overqualified with PFT and college over some bull****, my fault really.
I immediately went to a Navy recruiter, but the more I look into it the more I keep seeing about how getting promotions in the navy is hard as hell and they're not very professional to boot. That and the choice of jobs is lacking at best, especially since their medical jobs are locked up all the time.
The Army seems to be sounding much sweeter for going in as a medic or a small arms technician, active or reserve.
I'm just trying to get more input on it is all. No, the Airforce and the Coast Guard do not interest me at all.
34 college credits, GED, very physically capable. 85 out of 100 asvab score.

Key: GED. You screwed up in high school.
Don't rush this. You need to go through the jobs they have, and pick a list. Do you have a list?
Medical = hard as hell to get in to, no matter what branch.

I qualify for every program every branch offers except things like MP and I doubt I qualify for Seals in the Navy(I hate swimming), but I MIGHT qualify for the Nuclear program, but I don't feel much excitement at the prospect of living on a ship working on a reactor all day for most of my enlisted career.

It's not the job that's as much the issue. It's promotions, benefits, level of professionalism(how well they actually do their jobs) and recognition and rewards of good service. I've seen some sailors online bitching about how they've bee nin 5 years, passing all their tests and are still stuck at E-3.

Read.
I'm sure the LOP is high.
Rewards as in what?
There could be other factors than tests.

I haven't a clue what LOP is.
Is that 20k joining bonus still going on in the army?

sailors might pass but they probably didnt score high enough to get promoted (you can pass and not rank high enough on test to get promoted).
Also they might be **** bags as far as height/weight standards, or military knowledge etc/job

LOP = Level of Professionalism
From what I know, yeah. If you're joining because the military gives you money, that's a bad reason to join. That's why it's called a bonus.

You'll get to visit a lot more tropical places if you're in the Navy. Sexy ports all over the Pacific.
That's about the only input I have for you, and about all I know regarding the armed services.
The question I'll ask you though is what are you looking to get out of this? If you can answer that confidently, it'll be a lot easier to choose.

I just want to do something and get the hell out of here. I know it sounds tacky, but I didn't join before because I wanted to see if I could take control of my own life, as far as job, college, bills, etc go before signing off to take orders. Now that I know I can do that I just want a big adventure, something I can be proud of myself for the rest of my life for doing, no matter how good/bad it turns out.
So I know what I want out of it, but I don't want to get stuck where I can't get promotions and I'm always on a ship and can't really have a personal life going as far as finding a chick and maybe a family and stuffs.

I've talked to all recruiters at one point (but I opted out of it) I almost signed up for 21B army which is a combat engineer and I was suppose to be working "construction" turns out 21B is code name for Human I.E.D. tester...
Anyways I would opt for Navy since I have friends in all branches expect marines (Though I do know guys in marines, just not close with them) I would have to say Navy.
P.S. You will find most ppl opt for army because the navy is "gay"

I'm guessing you're in the Navy?

Well what did you go to school for? Maybe you could do this: school/military + military/school = career. I.E. - USAF - Security Forces + School for Criminal Justice = Career as a Cop. See what I'm getting at?

You're not in the Navy or Army...So you wouldn't know. Even though there are people in the Army and Navy over seas right now, I don't see how you can sit there and talk **** on them. I would pay to see you say that to their faces. You know there's a SEAL team on Guam, right?
So you can shut the **** up now.

That's what I've been wondering.
I keep hearing people say that it's gay, and I would like to hear some explanations as to WHY they're gay. The navy peeps I know around here get more damned pussy than any marines I know.

"tedious/overly political etc"... thats just the military for u in general...
Im in the Airforce and ive witnessed some pretty gayy sh!t from navy guys.
they r fat. they r pretty much those kids in highschool u made fun of.
The Airforce has their fair share of nerds... dont get me wrong. but atleast they are actually intelligent people. (unlike the navy)

Usually the Corps will take a GED if you get I believe 15 college credits, with 34 you should get in, unless you're not telling us something else about you, excessive tattoos on your body, legal trouble, etc.
The Corps can be selective, they make their numbers quite often.

Anyways I would opt for Navy since I have friends in all branches expect marines (Though I do know guys in marines, just not close with them) I would have to say Navy.
P.S. You will find most ppl opt for army because the navy is "gay"

Sorry bro, you're not getting into the navy. They've met their GED requirements for the year and aren't accepting anymore... at least thats the word. Looks like your best bet is Army.
Plus, I think you're going to find that after boot camp, any branch seems a lot less professional.
Also, 99 is a perfect score on the ASVAB.

I seen some of your post before, so
With all due respect for someone who did what you did and is going through that **** I do not think should even go near the Army. You will face a lot of discrimination and humiliation within the unit once the word gets out. Not only that, but the thing you did once the word gets out, possibility of getting chaptered out the Army are very high, and they would be under “Medical discharge, general or other then honorable” which all suck if you want a career after.
Also for people that are unaware
GED plus certain amount of college credits is considered a HS diploma [usually 12-15 credits].
