Sleeping habits
How many hours do you sleep? I need about 8-9 hours to get through the day without being tired. If I sleep less than 8, I'm exhausted all day. And its not like I wake up and go back to sleep. When I sleep, I SLEEP. And its a really deep sleep. Sometimes I dont even hear the alarm go off. I dont get it. I eat healthy, eat my vitamins, Im not stressed out, so I cant really pinpoint out the problem (if there is any). I know that as a bodybuilder I need more sleep, but this is ridiculous and its really frustrating. I lift 5 days a week and do cardio 6 days (preparing for a show). Sunday is my day off, where I do absolutely nothing. Is this normal?

On a workout day 8.5-9, especially if it's leg day. I swear I slip into a coma on leg day. I like to sleep, so naps on the weekends are nice too.

Naps are gooooood However, I have a big blue/golden macaw, and if "mommy" is home, its playtime . But sometimes he does take a nap with me. Then he sleeps on my chest. Thats so sweet. Its good to know that Im not the only one. I have mentioned it to some people at the gym, and they just look at me all weird, "I need only 6-7 hours"... I hate those people

I LOVE to sleep. But I don't like going to sleep. LOL
If I don't set my alarm, I sleep for 10-12 hours a time. I can survive off of about 6 hours. 4 hours is too little for me, but I know people who regularly do fine off 4-5 hours of sleep...or, they say they do. I kinda wish I was one of those people but then I wouldn't get to look forward to sleeping in on Saturday.

Eek....I can't seem to sleep through the night lately....been waking up around 3 or 4am for the last week or so, and it's annoying as all hell.
May have something to do with changing up my workouts and trying to get to bed earlier, but it's driving me crazy, because then I fall back to sleep and have an even harder time getting up when I'm supposed to.

I feel best when I get 8-9 hours, as well. I try to nap on the weekends, when my daughter naps too!
I also call BS on the older you get, the less you sleep. I used to sleep 4-5 hours, but couldn't do that now.

Yeah, its funny that when I was younger, I could go out partying friday and saturday night, sleep 3-4 hours a night, and still be ready for work monday morning. Now, I dont even bother to go out unless I have to. And even though I dont drink alcohol and try to make it to bed before midnight, I still feel hung over the next day.
I need my 8-9 hours. On the other hand, I cant sleep for 10-12 hours either. Its 8-9, no more, no less. Speaking of sleep.... time for bed... and tonight I will get my 9 hours... woohoo.... night night.

I'm lucky if I get 8. Old guys like me need their rest. Young chicks like you tend to wear us out ;-)

I need about 8-9 hours to feel rested. Unfortunately I've been having a problem staying asleep and I seem to be awakened a lot more easily.
That and I have a boyfriend who snores, so when there's a sleepover, I can count on getting about 3-4 hours that night. Ugh.

That sucks...I was doing that a few weeks ago, myself (had some other weird symptoms, too). Sometimes when the weather starts warming up I have problems staying asleep, too. Problem is, that it doesn't change the fact that you need it!
Hopefully you'll be back to mormal soon!

I'd love to be able to sleep deep like that. From all the years of working rotating shifts I've developed a sleep disorder of sorts. I wake at the slightest of sounds and I need a prescription to get the sleep I get. But I do need about 8-9 hrs of rest to feel normal. Any less and I'm dragging all day. Even after being on a permanent shift for a year now I still have some difficulty sleeping. it sucks. but better than it was.

I finally slept through the night! Woohoo!!!! ....for the first time in at least a week. Hopefully, this coming week will go smoothly with me going to bed early enough and not waking up like I'm dragging an anvil attached to my ankles.

That sucks - have you tried using white noise as a background to help mask the other sounds?

8 h here. No surprise that most here are snoozers. Exercise seems to regulate the body's need for sleep to a pretty constant level.
Most of the people (usually non-exercisers) who sleep only 6 hours or less per night are either cheating the sandman and working fatigued the next day or they may have sleep disorders e.g. sleep apnea. I've also noticed that people who get 6 h or less sleep are often way out of shape.
The people who cheat on sleep "to put in extra time at work" may put in extra time with a spreadsheet or computer task....but rarely do they put in time on the trail, gym, or treadmill.

I've been having a terrible time sleeping lately. I was on elavil because of cluster headaches and trouble sleeping but since I've been working out again, I weaned myself off of them. The headaches havn't started again but I wake up during the night at least 4 or 5 times per night and stay awake for at least 10 minutes each time. Does anyone have any natural remedies that they use to help them sleep?

OH i know how you feel when you actually sleep the whole night. Its a great feeling. Yeah I've tried the white noise thing. Actually I sometimes will run an old fan we have which is a little noisy. It has worked pretty good sometimes.

My sleep schedule is so CrAzY during the school semester.... I go from 12 hours of sleep to 5-6 hours. But I never stay too low too long.

I need 7-8 hours of sleep. Sometimes I even take afternoon naps but only when I'm really tired.

I sleep for 10 hours easy, if left undisturbed. Seeing how that isn't a common occurence, 7-8 hours.

Even though my sleep is so deep, I still remember all my dreams, and most of the times they are so real, and I dont wake up feeling rested at all. Sometimes its so deep that I dont even hear my alarm, and that really scares me. My x-boyfriend told me, that when we were lying in bed, I could fall asleep mid-sentense If I dont set set the alarm, I usually wake up after 8-9 hours, and I dont feel the need to go back to sleep, but I feel tired all day. I guess that the quality of my sleep really suck big time, and I really dont know if I can change it, or how to change it.

Well, I guess I do get some deep sleep at times cause I usually have about 1-2 dreams a night. If I know my alarm is set, I usually wake up 10-15 mins before it goes off. I can recall two times in the past 10 years where I woke up feeling great. Both times I commented to my husband about how good I felt. weird...

8 hrs is a great number for most adults. Although I don't know many people that get there. If you find that only 8-9 will do the trick and anything less is leaving you lethargic, and unable to get through the day you might have an under lying health issue. Although you think you are sleeping deeply you may have sleep apnea or even a deficiency. You eat right, and are very active. I recommend having a talk with your doc to discuss this. Best of luck.

I really don't function well on less than 9 hours. 8 is manageable, but barely.
