Protein Shakes and Weigh Loss

I searched around for a topic like this but couldn't find one.

Normally for my protein shakes I use 8oz of milk and a scoop of ON Whey. Are these good in assisting weight loss? I am about 170 5'10'' looking to be around 160. Also my girlfriend is 126 looking to drop about 6lbs and wondering the same thing. We have read mixed reviews on the subject and looking for any other input.

Mike,
I have ditched my protein shakes and since lost 5lbs. They are CRITICAL if you want to maintain muscle mass while cutting. But if all you want to do is get on the scale and see some pounds disappearing, you may want to skip them until you decide to lean up and get some muscle.

For me, I have too much fat so I won't even be able to see the muscle well until I drop another 25lbs. So THEN I will just bulk. Cut/bulk seems more my style.

It depends on what the rest of your food plan looks like. Most people that are trying to cut, will use water or 1% to keep the calories down. If you factored in for the milk, then it's ok.

Agreed. If it's within your calorie/macro limits, then it's helpful. Both whey protein and milk are healthy foods.

I drink 1-2 protein shakes with a Tbsp of Natural PB and skim milk every day and I'm still losing 1-2 pounds a week.

I drink one ON w/10oz water at 7:30, on post workout around 6pm, and then an ON Caseing with 15oz water before I go to bed.

Started my cut on 3/31 and weighed around 235 or so, and I weighed myself on Saturday and was at 217lbs. So its working for me no problems.

Im taking in about 250-275g or protein per day, so I need the shakes to get those #'s, otherwise I'd be eating more food than I'd want right now.

Good luck man!

i find milk quite a b*tch, due to the fact you lose the count of calories your drinking from it because its so damn tasty!
