Breakfast.. sugars?
Today a friend of mine was telling me today that for breakfast every morning he has simple carbs + protein, so it's a bit like a post-workout shake. He has quite some size and is pretty educated about bodybuilding..
what do you all think of this method?

You definately need complex carbs like for oatmeal extended energy for the day. If you only eat sugars and simple carbs you're gonna feel like **** an hour later.
If you want to listen to him, just combine it with complex carbs and don't go overboard. Like eat some raisin bran, its got whole grain cereal and the simple carbs in the raisins lightly sugared.

I think the simple carbs would induce a insulin spike.

We're dealing with semantics here. Any reasonable amount of carbs, as long as it's not pure sugar, won't *spike* your insulin. It will get an insulin response, which it SHOULD.
Complex carbs will have MUCH less effect on insulin. Insulin is released in response to blood sugar, and complex carbs take a long time to break down into blood sugar.
Sugar in the morning can be OK, because you're catabolic hormones are high, and sugar/insulin can counteract that.

I can see his point but your bodys jsut gone 8hours without food so any protein you put in will get absorbed pretty quickly anyway. Better off hittin the oats otherwise like that guy said you guna feel like poo and you'll probably be hungry within 30mins.

A glass of juice for quick energy to stop the overnight catabolism is good.
