    Good Substitute for Cottage Cheese

I need a good substitute for cottage cheese. I have no problem eating it BUT my stomach does. I had been eating it everyday and due to sodium intolerance I cut back. When I did I noticed I was less bloated and gassy. Well I decided to try a few spoonfuls before bed. The first night was fine but after 4 nights I'm bloated again and gassy and it lasts all the way until morning. I like to have a "snack" before bed but I want something beneficial. Plus it seems to help my morning workouts because I do it about 5 minutes after I roll out of bed.
    Any suggestions???

If the sodium is the problem I have seen brands out there with no salt added. I believe Hood sells this and I've also seen it in my store brand.

Have you tried FRIENDSHIP brand cottage cheese? That is the only one I can eat...all the other brands seem to disagree with me. I also mix it with Dannon fat free plain yogurt and its really good with a little sweetner added.

You can get low(er) fat ricotta at most grocery stores - I love having that mixed with nuts, or on chicken

Because a few people mentioned ricotta.... I had been wondering about eating that, but it has a very grainy texture. Is there a way to get rid of that???

And I have tried to find greek yogurt and have yet to see it.... but I don't think there are any whole foods stores here.

try looking for friendship farmer cheese no sodium added. it's the solid form of cottage and has wayyy less sodium. there are other white cheeses that are mild like cottage e.g., goat cheese or chevre. those might come in a reduced sodium variety

I'm in the UK, you can buy it in any supermarket here fairly cheap, I get total plain 0% fat.... Cost's about 50 - 60p per pot (78cals, 6 carbs, 14 protein, 0 fat). It's devine with PP mixed in, goes really creamy!

If you have a walmart anywhere around, they should carry the stonyfield yogurt...If you really cannot find it, its a tad more pricy but if you have the money the casein shakes are awesome. I hate the taste of cottage cheese so I use ON Casein.

I'd highly recommend quark if you come across it! It's readily available here in the UK but I think it's tricker to find across the Atlantic. Aside from that, I agree with the FF Greek yoghurt suggestion, or you could add casein protein to regular FF yoghurt for a similar nutrient profile.

It is possible that you are intolerant of casein (rather than salt). It has similarities to gluten on a molecular level and not everyone can tolerate it. You could just have a whey shake before bed if you feel you need something, or alternatively get your protein from another source. Some turkey slices would work well as they contain tryptophan which aids sleep.

Umm, what exactly are you looking for? Jelly has nowhere close to the macros of cottage cheese. Just something high in protein? How about eggs or meat (steak, pork, chicken, game meats, fish you like etc)? Just something high in cals - eat more of what you like. Simple.
