How often are you guys drinking right now?
I know a lot of people are starting to cut (myself included), with summer coming and all. Right now I'm limiting my drinking to one night a week, but thinking of quitting all together until memorial day. Think it'll make much difference?

i drink about every other weekend. Gin is my fave.
i notice a big difference (physically and mentally) the less i drink, so if it is that important to you, stop.

Alcohol is the devil when it comes to exercising. The difference is night/day, but I still drink every weekend though. I'm an idiot.

Only on special occasions. To be quite honest, alcohol doesn't taste that great anyway. Exercising seems to exaggerate the dehydration effect of alcohol.

very. calories, lowered testoserone and, mainly, your body produces acetates, which prevents you from burning stored fat.

Alcohol....whatever type it is...will slow the body's metabolic rate for about 3 days at a shot...so keep that in mind.
I cut my drinking by about 75% ever since I started lifting 18 months ago and noticed a dramatic difference in how I felt and performed.

I'm trying my best not to drink especially since alcoholism runs in my family. Once I start drinking, I don't stop until 20+ drinks later and a jogged memory of that evening. I used to pound down beers and shots every day during the college days with KA's.
Plus now that I stopped buying alcohol, I have way more money in my food budget for a proper bulk.

A night of drinking will severly inhibit your recovery from exercise for that night and it is empty calories. When cutting calories are important and you should use them on healthy foods obviously. If it is once in a while and not like blacking out drunk then it won't kill you. Once a week basically gives you 6/7 good recovery days a week. That means 15% of your week is at lower recovery. 53 days a year with lowered recovery and wastefull calories. What could you have done with those 53 days? Made better improvement probably?
I normally drink to get a buzz maybe once a month but that is usually not more than 5-6 drinks.

I don't know from experience what the difference is, because I have never drank. But i can tell you that its pretty much empty calories, like going out and eating some processed white bread that is also poisonous in large amounts. You wouldnt do that when you were cutting would you?
Before you all start, I realize the bread example may be considered exaggerated.

I drink around January 6 (my birthday, usually a few glasses of wine, or 2 beers), then I drink again in march or april when we have our annual crawfish boil, then its 3-4 margaritas, then again around 1ug 15 for my wifes birthday (similar stuff to my birthday), then sept 18 i have wine or champagne for my wedding anniversary. thats it. I used to be a heavy drinker, but now i find it mostly unpleasant to drink much. I also have an allergic reaction to beer now, it causes massive congestion and slightly airway constriction within the first 2 beers. I love wine though...

Drinking itself won't cause fat gain but it can make it harder. I've been sober for 5 months, longest time ever. I'm going to college next year and I'll be doomed if I am still tring to lose fat then. I've heard its a lot easier to maintain your bodyweight than lose it.

FAT STORAGE
Alcohol has seven calories per gram. Fat has nine calories per gram. Alcohol is stored much like fat in the body. Also, alcohol deaminates (destroys) amino acids and stores them as fat. Alcohol consumption, therefore, increases fat storage and adversely effects body composition (increase % body fat). Powerful energy pathways (like glycolysis) are impaired and large amounts of lactic acid are produced, this results in decreased energy, decreased muscle recovery, and increased muscle soreness. Also, alcohol is usually consumed in addition to the person?s normal food intake. Since alcohol has seven calories per gram these extra calories can add up really fast increasing the persons bodyweight and percent body fat.
