Retaking a college class for better grade

Who here has done it? Does it completely remove the previous grade from your transcripts? If not, how bad does it look you had to take the class over again?

Story: Im getting a C in a class where my GPA is already barely 3.0 and i want to go in to physical therapy. So i need to retake the class for a B or better

Yes I have and it completely removes the other grade from your transcript. The only problem was I made a worse grade the second time because Im a dumbass.

depends on what school you go to. most schools these days DO NOT REMOVE THE OLD GRADE. some still do.

plus, even if your transcript says one thing, grad schools (if that's your chosen path) may calculate it differently.

For example, osteopathic med schools will only count the replacement grade if you retook a class when you apply; so even if you have a 3.0 on your transcript, if you retook some classes, your calculated gpa by the osteopathic application service could be higher.

yeah, it depends on your school policy. at my university they just take the two grades and average them together.

The school I go to will take the higher grade, but all grades will show up on your transcript, they recently put in act a policy that you can only retake a class three times though, so that should cut out alot of the dumbasses here.

In california it replaces the first grade but the first grade still shows. It just isn't calculated into your GPA.

My school doesn't remove the first from your transcript, but it does replace the grade.. if you retake it a second time, it averages the grades together. I believe grad school may be different and Med schools will usually average the original grade with the retake for med school requisite courses.

At the UC schools, it replaces the grade but it will still show up on your transcript. And you can only do that for something like 3 or maybe 4 courses.

hmm so if one has a 4.0 and gets a B in a class, they can keep their 4.0 gpa by retaking the class if they get an A?
