    Does rice have protein in it?

    If so, how much (per cup)? I tried to google it but kept getting "rice protein" results (as in sites selling protein extracted from rice).

    What's the best kind to get? (brown, white etc.)

    White rice for post workout, brown for every other time. The organic brown rice that I eat says 3 grams of protein for 1/4 cup (I eat 1/2 cup at a time).

    Because it's dirt cheap. This might become the main staple of my diet for 6 months .

    So can I eat ~2000 cals worth of rice everyday no problem or is this unhealthy?

    Really? Then what is the big deal of eatting brown rice (nonsarcastic, curious)? When I joined everyone was recommending to eat brown over white. This was at least in the losing fat section.

    Brown still has one of the husks on it. Husk vs. no husk is the only difference. The husk has some fiber, nutrients and fat.

    I don't know why people get so worked up over brown.

    It's NOT a big deal. Brown rice has a slightly lower GI (insignificant, especially in the context of a meal), a bit more fiber, and a bit more vitamins/minerals.

    Sorry to the OP if you felt I hijacked your post. Oh and im pretty sure using rice as your staple would be a pretty bad idea. For those 5-6g of protein you will be taking in like 45g of carbs. For ~2000 of calories you would be getting 50-60g of protein and 450g of carbs.

    Mr. Horse; thats very interesting. Well then white>>>>>brown any day. Fiber and vitamins doesnt sound like it out weighs the taste.

    But I am assuming american wheat bread<100% whole wheat bread (nutrciously)? Same with potatoe? Brown/sweet>white?
