Airforce Fighter Pilots
What is the height limit?
I have wanted to be a fighter pilot my whole life but decided to go to school first. I now am thinking of going to officer training in the airforce to become a pilot. But I have heard mixed reviews? I have heard 6'5'' is the limit, but I want to fly F-16s and other fighter jets.

You better be a smart and real good academic student before you even look at your height. I hear its extremely difficult to become a fighter pilot.

I dont want to sound like a prick, BUT look at they way you wrote the paragraph you wrote. Are you sure you are serious about becomming an Officer? If I were you, I would take some basic writing classes first.

in his defense this is an internet message board. many people can write gramatically correct when writing a paper or business e-mail etc but this is just an informal writing

At USMC flight school (don't know about the air force) they just assign you to what youre going to pilot by random, and choosing to become a pilot is the same as everything else, if there's a slot open when you are able to choose, there you go.

Standing height 64-77 inches, sitting height 34-40 inches. What route do you plan on taking to become a pilot?

Why?
I know I wouldn't want to be stuck in a ship every deployment.

Im in the Australian Airforce. 6'4" is too tall under our standards.
You would have extrem difficulty fitting comfortably in a fighter cockpit. Though the USAF may have different height standards, for example you could fly transport aircraft etc.

Fixed and true. Only 4% of the USAF are pilots.

The problem is, there's no way of knowing his true abilities when they're hidden behind the excuse of "informal writing". People are treated based on the way they present themselves. He was simply being told that his presentation didn't match someone who should be trusted with the lives of his crew, and an aircraft that costs tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.
By the way, his post was significantly better than many around here

unless you went to the naval or air force academy the chances of you becoming a fighter pilot are almost nil.
you can however fly other forms of aircraft if you do well in school, but being 24 already doesn't leave you much time to get a degree and complete OCS.

I'm joining the Air Force myself but to be honest if you're a fighter pilot, it's probably cooler taking off and landing on air craft carriers.

Yeah that's bc there's obviously alot of other jobs. Same for the Navy though. I bet their percentage of pilots is pretty small too.

The Navy has most of the fighters, more then the air force anyway.

Nope. The B-2A Spirits did it. It varies from plane to plane.

The planes carry external fuel tanks to get them from the US to Europe, then they fly from there to the Mid East. Aerial refueling is an option but not always required for such a trip. The world is smaller than you think.

1) If your 6'4 you will be fine for pilot
2) It doesnt matter if you fit in a F-16, some training aircraft are smaller and if you cant fit in them you wont be able to train
3) In the Navy if height is a question they will sit you in the actual aircraft and see if you are capable of flying
4) Weight can also be a problem because of ejection seats

no they dont. your performance in flight school is evaluated as your NSS score, and there is a NSS cutoff for jets

Here's some e-books that might help you out. I'm also thinking about becoming a fighter pilot. I'm starting to lean away from it, because I've heard your (study time:flying time) ration is 100:1. Exaggeration maybe, but I'm still seriously considering it. I have another e-book which is the main part of these e-books, but it's too large to upload. Let me know if you'd want it, and I might be able to email it or something.
Edit: reps appreciated, took me a while to dig up those files.

Yep, I heard the same thing, I went through a phase of working towards being a fighter pilot in my last couple of years of school, my subjects indicated this... But I spoke to a friend's father who was an RAAF pilot, and he said that the study:fly time was just ridiculous, worth it but at the same time just lots of work for an few hours a week of fly time. I guess if your in combat this would change, but I'm sure that of the percentage of active pilots, there would be a miniscule percentage flying in combat.
