Female needing advice to build muscle

I am just a bit frustrated b/c when I was at the gym one of the trainers took it upon himself to ask me about my goals and give me some tips. That all good and I appreciate his help but now I am more confused than ever. He said that with my body type it would literally take me 5-7 years to reach my goals of building the mass that I want if I don't do combo moves for all my muscle groups. He said not to isolate anything but do do things like a squat and shoulder press at the same time. If I do everything separatly because of my body type it will take me years to reach my goals. He supposedly trains Matt Damon and Nicolas Cage (He showed me a picture of him and Nicholas together to prove it to me I guess) But I don't know if that's what I should do or not. I like doing things separately so I can concentrate on that muscle but now I don't know what to do!

hmm, he trains Matt Damon and Nicolas Cage, yet he's workin the gym floor for new clients?? Sounds like he's full of it. If you like training bodyparts separately, do it! Trust you're intuition, you know your body and what you respond to better than anyone.

i don't know how long it would take you to reach your goals since i don't really know what they are, but what ever it is, i do agree with one thing he said, that you got to do compounds if you want to gain more mass and quicker. since we don't know how any of the conversation went, but i can tell you this, train hard, regardless, and you will make gains. obviously there's more to reaching you goals then just lifting, but if you are doing those properly, the lifting should bring about good gains.

Thumbs up your thing...

Second Orlando's reply. If you feel that you're making progress on splitting up bodyparts, doing your workout YOUR way, who cares what anyone says? (And, remember, most PT's ARE looking for new clients, BTW; saying "I train so-and-so" is a classic...).

One more thing. Muscle growth at best is slow, no matter what kind of training/eating programme you use. Just go at your pace, have faith in yourself, do the best you can, and GAIN.

ya I thought he was full of it when he told me who he trained also. My question is how would you make faster gains doing a squat shoulder press together when you obviously cant shoulder press what you could normally squat w/ a barbell. so i would think that you would gain more mass squatting heavier. hope that made sense
