    Blew out a hamstring

    I got no response at all in the injury forum so I'll try here. I was doing stiff legged deadlifts and suddenly it felt like someone walk over and kicked in the hamstring. The pain was horrible. I laid in the floor at the gym for 45 minutes before I could get up. It's been a week today and it feels much better. What kind of rehab should I do to help it heal faster?

    No I didn't go to the doctor. I think it's just a pull because there was no bruising. If it had been bruised the next day I was going to go to the doctor. I still can't squat down or bend over. Walking isn't bad at all though.

    Let me correct myself. I just looked at my leg again and there is in fact a huge bruise from mid hamstring to mid calf. It wasn't there a couple of days ago.

    Agree. If you couldn't get off the floor for 45 minutes, you probably should have headed for the clinic right after that. It's great that you can walk on it, but now that you have neglected it for a week, lets hope that the damage hasn't gotten any worse!

    Pulls are not trivial, either. The muscle partially 'frees' itself of insertion. Not good, as in how to re-insert?

    Better handle that with patience, go slow.

    Well, I just got back from the doctor. He said it was torn but not to bad and it should be ok in a few weeks. So that's good.

    Cool

    I did my hamstring last year and it doesnt sound as bad as yours. I had about 10 inches of bruising behind my thigh and had to limp around. A neoprene compression wrap worked wonders at speeding up the healing.

    It did take months to fully heal though, in fact I think it will never reach 100%. For months I was like 90%.

    Compression.
