Sugar alcohol and maltitol....

So what's the deal w/ sugar alcohols? It listed as having little or no impact on blood sugar level and the labels make it seem like fiber. Does it count as sugar or does it not affect the body at all?

second question....what is maltitol an how does it affect the body?
(I found these both in protein bars and no sugar dark chocolate)

treat them as you would count carbs, ... but, remember they are pretty void of nutrition, they just won't create an insulin rush, they are definitely not like fiber.

this is a good read:
http://www.mendosa.com/netcarbs.htm

it clearly states, maltitol does increase blood glucose. other than that, i like sugar alcohols and am pretty tolerant to them. i limit them to sorbitol, xylitol, and Erythritol. the only one that causes stomach discomfort of the one's i listed is sorbitol and only in large amounts. everyone is gonna react differently though.

^^^^ good call.

Sorbitol does indeed cause stomach discomfort in many people. Even in small amounts, it used to hurt me pretty bad. I never knew what the hell it was until I researched it.

Now I don't take in any artificial sugar (except for what comes in my whey and Purple wraath) and if I accidentally eat any Sorbitol I know it within 5 minutes and I'm almost doubled over in pain. Weird ****......

Let's not mince words... sugar alcohols are usually incompletely absorbed / digested and pass through and out the other end - and if enough are consumed, look out
