    Post 3x5 vs 5x5 workouts

Well, basically I'm getting back into the groove of lifting weights. I stopped for a half year due to me fathering a baby. I'm on a search for a good workout and I was wondering what's the difference between a 3x5 workout vs 5x5 workout.

I looked at a good(IMO) 5x5 workout but why couldn't it be as successful done at 3x5.

Hope that's clear, I'm just curious.

Could you take an advance 5x5 program, perform it a 3x5 and get good results?

A lot of people around here, as stated above, start out (or come back and 'start' with) Starting Strength, which is largely 3x5 and then transition into a 5x5 after they get further.

I've never done a specific workout (other than random crap I threw together that was not the greatest) other than Rippetoe's though....and I've never done 5x5 for anything (yet)

are you a beginner to weights? start off with rippetoes, you'll see great gains if you follow it exactly how it says and eat well.

ive gone from 222lbs with 180lbs LBM and 25%BF to 230lbs with 185lbs LBM and 18% BF all in about 8 weeks on a combination of ripptoes and a keto diet.

My biggest advice to you is control your diet. Search around the nutrition section and pick a plan and stick to it. A good lifting plan is completly useless without a strict diet plan, find one that fits your lifestyle and stick to it.

Remember though as many have told me: lifting is a marathon not a sprint. Set you some good obtainable short term goals and go for them.

Starting Strength is also great for a person coming back from a long layoff. In a signficantly deconditioned state, an otherwise experienced lifter can often make rapid, linear increases in strength to get back to their former levels.

start with the 3x5...after 6-12 months, going to 5x5 is a great way to add volume without a major program change
