    I rephrased what you meant by your OP. Squats and DL produce the highest muscle mass recruitment, and enable the highest overall volume.

    Also, 515 Lb is alot, Good job dave man
    #5: Hypertrophy is a systemic response and effect, not a localized one.

    All the talk about bodypart training versus full body routines, isolation exercise versus compound exercise, etc. is based upon a fundamentally flawed concept: that hypertrophy is somehow completely regional-specific.

    NSCA Conference Abstract (2000)

    The researchers compared the effects of a weight training program on 5RM strength and arm circumference and divided the subjects into two groups. Group 1 performed four compound upper body exercises, while Group 2 used the same program but included biceps curls and triceps extensions.

    The results showed that both groups significantly increased strength and arm size

    However, the addition of direct arm training to group two produced no additional effect on strength or arm circumference after 10 weeks of training.

    They do work well for those purposes but I only do them a few times a year and my traps and forearms are a couple of my strong points.

    wow strong 2005 mindset


    Back when all I did was powerlift, I only did core exercises or isolation on main muscles. I never did shrugs, forearm work, etc. Sure, my grip was strong as hell from lifting, but my forearms and traps remained small. When I started adding more supplementary hypertrophy exercises for those muscle groups, they grew. So, no, doing an exercise that only barely involves one muscle group will not work well. Kind of like how running won't improve the endurance in your arms.
    Lifts:
    Squat: 430x1
    Bench: 330x1
    Deadlift: 515x1
    OHP: 210x1

    Weight: 180 lbs.


    Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.

    I deadlift a lot and my forearms are pretty small, so that goes out the window. Squats don't work your traps. If laying weights across a muscle made it bigger then nobody would actually lift. I also gained a lot more back size from rack pulls than deads, but that is splitting hairs. Rows added more than both imo.

    Deadlifts are my favourite exercise, but imo they aren't that great for forearms. I hit a wall at 275 for 4 reps with deadlifts, but that was because I neglected to ever workout forearms. Once i incorporated forearm workouts, such as wrsit curls, into my workout routine, I found that my grip strength started to increase and I now I am at 305 for 4 reps, and continuing to increase at a steady rate.

    I got your ass on squats and bench son. Your deadlifts are impressive but I don't dead that much although I DL 400+. You weigh 220@6ft tho, I weigh 200@5'11.
