If you take those calories from carbs and fat you can kiss any progress goodbye.

Excess protein is said to convert to glucose and turn to fat.

The real question is what happens with the extra consumption of protein?
I am a Steak and Eggs Diet advocate. Where you eat a high protein, moderate fat and low carb diet. And i have seen great results in fat loss and muscle gain.
But, if my fat and carb ratios were different, what would happen to the extra protein? Like if i did a high protein, moderate carb and low fat diet.
Fat and Proteins work well together as a ketogenic diet. But, not sure about carbs.

That's my understanding also. But protein has a higher thermic effect (harder for body to chemically convert it into glucose), so overeating by 500g of protein is (slightly) less harmful than overeating by 500g of carbs.
But all in all, (imo) that's a waste of protein, if you're gonna do that just eat some carbs. they're cheaper.
