I realize they are trying to save money but damn what good does it do if all you're doing is replacing good expensive players with cheap players that are no good. furthermore you lost games last year because you can't score and you want to trade away any hitting that you did for MORE PITCHING! gawd damn it people what the hell! what does that convo sound like?
"We couldn't score to save our lives last year and were among the tops in ERA. What should we do?"
"I think we should trade away all our bats for more pitching"
"Sounds good to me".

The Braves system is devoid of arms, they want to get back to winning with great pitching, timely hitting with plate discipline and good fielding. They wouldn't have been able to sign Heyward or Justin Upton because of previous bad contracts. They replaced Heywards bloated WAR with Markakis (just as good offensively), Shelby Miller and a great prospect.
I have zero problems with what they are doing. I only hope they can get a ML ready bat or arm for Upton or Gattis but they may use 1 of them to package with a bad contract.~Braves-Falcons-Caps~

pitching was great last year. who'd we lose besides Santana who probably got sick of losing 1 run ball games? I had no problem losing Heyward. great fielder but no bat since he got hit in the mouth. that being said now that he's gone he'll probably bat 305 with 32 HR's. this is what players do when they leave this state in any sport.
and forget all that it's been proven over 20 years all the pitching in the world won't mean squat if you can't hit. that's been this team's single biggest problem since I was 9.MuscleTech Supporter

I really think we will be a winning ballclub.
You guys under estimate how bad the offense really was last year. Yes we traded away some names.
Look at it this way, we had virtually the same lineup which won 96 games in 2013 as 79 games in 2014. We had a Top 5 pitching staff both years.
So the question is do you want to use the 96 team as the benchmark of what we traded away or the 79 win team as the benchmark?
I mean it was the same offense, and if we truly lost something i find it hard to believe people are anchoring from the 79 win team when the previous year the same lineup posted 96 wins.
People keep saying we "lost about 12 games of offense". Did we lose 17 games of offense between 2013 and 2014 on paper? If so I missed it.
In other words, the offense was rock bottom. Argue differently if you want but it's true. Even another rock bottom offense season and we will again flirt with .500 because of our pitching staff.
Peterson will bring life to a position that has been more unproductive for us in the last 2 years than any other team in baseball.
Markakis will replace Heyward fine, he wasn't that great offensively and even if you don't believe it now you'll see we didn't lose much with him.
EY Jr will be very refreshing leading off and playing CF. BJ will not be given the leniency this season, especially if EY Jr starts out strong while BJ is injured. We may end up with a platoon which is better than straight BJ.
Terdo and Gomes could be a very solid platoon in left. They don't have the name "Upton", but Gomes .276 against lefties last year and Terdo continues to do well against righties should work well and be productive combined.
The team has more pieces to it for sure. It's not the Upton and Freeman show now. But I think this offense will surprise a lot of people, especially in Atlanta who have already written them off.
Will we challenge the Nats? No probably not. But there's no reason this team can't win more than it loses still."One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Gattis is the only offensive player we lost that was worth a gee wiz imo. everyone else? good riddance. you were literally the worst last year. it's not like it can be worse this year. worst case scenario we just spend less sucking than we would have.

So Melvin and Kimbrel are gone now. Seems like half the Braves roster from last year are Padres now. The Braves are in full rebuilding mode so this season is mainly about player development and acquiring talent.
In other news, Jason Heyward is batting 1.000 with 3 hits right now. I'm crying on the inside.

Blows my mind how brain dead management is. So much talent on the roster, it was obvious the coaching staff was the reason why they were underperforming. Brb lets trade 3 of our best assets, all 27 or younger for mid-tier prospects who won't reach the majors.
"How can we rebuild for the future? I know, lets trade all our A level young major league capable talent for c-level underdeveloped prospects, that's how you rebuild."
See you in 2018.

I understand JUp and Heyward. Even Gattis to some extent
But I don't get heyward
All we got is a salary dump. Don't even try to tell me different, Aware who Wisler is.
So after we picked up our salary dump naturally I looked up the FA class next year
Let me tell, there is no one. It's pretty much just JUp and if they planned on keeping him they could have saved them selves the trouble of bidding for him by keeping him earlier.
So there's little to no chance we sign him.
And that leads me to the question, what the **** was the point of shipping off Kimbrel for the payroll flexibility? So we could pick up Huston Street or something?
Smart move"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. Management has pretty much lied to fans from the beginning, so all the money we freed up, if it doesn't get spent I won't be shocked
If 2017 rolls around and we have $70 mil payroll add another lie in the book of Hart
Maybe they just want the payroll lower. Hard to think much different atm"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. them giving up Kimbrel is management saying we give up, we're not going to win any games to need a closer for so F it. Plus we finally got rid of BJ. that cancer had to be cut out. he sucked so badly, he was a douche' and he cost more than half the team combined. I knew this is what was going to have to happen to get rid of him. this club has always been good at bringing in new talent. they've been doing it for 20 years and that isn't about to change. keep in mind all of these "talented" guys we traded away were second to last in hitting. seriously folks. you don't go from last place to even top 10 in 1 season with the same players. it just doesn't happen. Heyward and JuP will both be batting 240 with half a dozen HR's at the All-Star break and we'll all be glad we don't have to pay them anymore. they can be replaced with literally anyone. better yet players that might actually give a gee wiz about making a team and will play with some effort. this team was going to suck again this year regardless. might as well do it cheap.
I hated to see Gattis go. dude was just what this team needed. but we're so deep at catcher someone had to go so they decided to stay with the long term guys over someone getting near the end.MuscleTech Supporter

In for Heyward going off this year with better coaching and them simplifying his swing. Never understood trading him. Elite defender, great baserunning, some injury issues the past few years but healthy now. He's already had an OPS+ of 130 and he's young as hell.
Rest of the trades made sense, especially the Gattis trade. But damn that offense is gonna be terrible.Panthers/Tar Heels/Hurricanes/Durham Bulls

I can't say how much I like reading stuff like this. F NY sports and Philly to. all of em'! lol

From 2011 to 2014, just starting his career, Freeman played 71 games against the Mets and had 84 hits, 13 home runs and 59 R.B.I. No one else drove in more runs against the Mets in that span, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Mets third baseman Eric Campbell, left, threw out the Marlins’ Dee Gordon after a bunt. The Mets completed a four-game sweep.
“We haven’t got him out in four years,” Mets Manager Terry Collins said.MuscleTech Supporter

braves fans, what say ye?
the team got a better start than i thought. so the plan was to get rid of the strikeout guys? because the braves are actually in the top 5 when it comes to not striking out
i am a fan of a team that puts the bat on the ball so at least there is that. stuff like the crap that is going on in houston is what i hate. all power, but most games are nights full of whiffing
i dont have super high hopes for the team, but at least it's respectable baseball
i havent been following as closely as i should so i could be off. im into baseball dfs now, so going forward i hould be more informed...at least from a statistical standpoint
if the pitchers can keep it in line, i say we just put the ball in play all year and win ball games***Gender Non-Committed***
