I have 4 books on my night stand. The Bible, a Quran (this was from a challenge from Syriankid to read it), a Book of Mormon and Horton Hears a Who. I have had the Dr Suess book for several years and I have loved the story since I was a child.
This week I went and saw the movie and felt pretty stupid when at the end I had tears streaming down my face. It's funny how you can find truth both in the great religious texts of day and in something as simple as a childrens book.

I found the Qur'an a very interesting read. It gives a somewhat different perspective on a number of familiar events. And good ol' Horton.
By my bed at the moment is Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb by Richard Rhodes. And re-reading Shelby Foote's The Civil War (into Volume 2)."You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They'll race behind you. They will stumble; they will fall. But, in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." Jor-El

Whoa. Brings back a a few memories from my first spin at college. Can still remember my Thermo prof's Lesson of Life: "Life is never fair, and seldom cheap." Of curse, he was a little different (Ex. He collected Fire Engines. Real Fire Engines. He had 5)
And the Linear Algebra is after this math lover's heart. What text?"You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They'll race behind you. They will stumble; they will fall. But, in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." Jor-El

Yeah I thought the same thing about my read of the Qur'an. And Horton there is a lot deeper message there than at first glance. The movie really develops that. I have always tended to see the world from a little different angle than most of my peers. So I totaly loved how Horton hangs on to what he knows even though everyone around him doesn't share his belief. Sounds a bit like your story as well.

A Study Bible and a Qur'an, both of which I rarely read anymore. And a brand spanking new copy of Julius Norwhich's A Brief History of Byzantium, which is doing nothing but collecting dust. I'll get around to reading again during summer break.

She's a little too sympathetic towards the Islamic perspective. At least that is my opinion of her "A History of God". "The Battle for God" may not be the same, as it (I believe) focuses more on the actual physical confrontation between the three monotheistic faiths. At least I would hope not.
Maybe stating that she's a dry read is a bit too much, at least relative to other history writers. Some of what she says is interesting, but I found other parts boring. Maybe it was the material. Or her.100% ä¸å›½äºº / Chinese
